Anyone know what cam i need?
Im getting another cylinder head for my car solely because its cheap and doesnt have a cam so i can put a bigger one in it but i dont know what kind or how big or anything? I want as much power as i can get without blowing hundreds of dollars on a cam... Any ideas?
you're pretty much looking at a regrind... but for that you'll need a good used factory cam. there are plenty of good companies that have regrind profiles for f-series, so look around and find the one you're most comfortable dealing with.
even for a regrind you'll be looking at a few hundred with shipping and all. i know some companies will sell you a good used cam and then regrind it for you which will save some time and shipping charge.

they do cam regrinds, sell pistons and do valvetrain for the F series motor. I'm fixing to get my spare cam reground for turbo, they call it stage 1.2

if you take a look at the page again, the last paragraph before the level listings states that the two numbers are durration at 0.050" intake first then exhaust. if you need to know what that is you're not quite ready to buy your cam. read up on it. i thought i had a link for you but i can't find it. you should turn up some good stuff with a google search or wikipedia.
+1 for the previous. If you have to ask what those ratios mean then you should buy a book on camshaft theory and read up before you make a modification when you can't even begin to acurately predict how your setup will take to it. You could actually make less power or even damage the motor if done incorrectly.

x2 You need to know what you want to do with your car before you throw just any cam in it. Your probably going to need to spend some money on a new intake manifold, port-n-polished head or a larger exhaust in order to get anything out of the cam. It may require a larger amount of air flow that the stock hardware can't supply.
Also the price as listed is for just the grinding it does not include the cam. You have to supply a cam, aka core, or pay an extra $100-150 for a cam for them to grind. So your looking at approx $350-400.

Ya i knew i needed to buy the cam. I am not building this completely on my own i have some buddies at a shop that are helping me. I am planning on a port and polish and basically upgrading everything including exhaust and intake... I just dont know much about cams that arent base line...
if you are going to go with a stage 2 you are also going to want to look into springs and retainers. x2 on the reading up, it would be sad to hear about you floating a valve and it playing with a piston in a few weeks
