Default Need clarification on 91 Civic Si.

Here's the deal. This dude has a 91 Civic hatch with a 5speed. I went to the Carfax website and typed in the vin #, and it returned that this particular ED7 is a canadian model with a 1.5L engine. So WTF? I plan on putting a B16a in this car. I guess i'm sort in the same boat if I were to buy this piece of s**t as I was with the DPFI civic I just got rid of, right?

I thought Civic Si's come with D16's, right?
Does this mean this thing doesn't have MPFI since it is a D15 motor?
Does this mean that it comes with those little small-spline axles, and will require a spindle swap?

Am I really making a mistake? You see, I had an ED6 Civic Hatch of the same year (i.e., 1991) and in order for me to have swapped in a B-series motor, I would've needed to change knuckles/spindles, and I would've needed to convert to MPFI from DPFI.

Please let me know.

1.5 d15b2 dx/std from canada dpfi
1.6 d16a6 si mpfi

.. if it's a d15 from canada then your in the same boat i guess lol.. but it sounds more like a dx because i belive the std came with 4 gears and not 5 . so i think you can use the knuckles just double check me.

the carfax for my car(which is a canadian '91 SI hatch) also said 1.5L, which shows you about how "accurate" carfax is. the best way to tell is to go look at the car and see if it has MPFI installed, but i bet it does. I still have the carfax, in case you need unequivocal proof. ED7 is a pretty strong tipoff too though, only SI's are ED7's

Canadian Si's are identical to US Si's. If the vin says ED7 then it is an Si. We never had an std civic in Canada, it was called a CX and they came in both 4 and 5 speeds. 4 speeds have smaller hubs and axles, 5 speeds are normal sized knuckles, spindles and axles.

that was what i was talking about the knuckles if it was a 5 speed then it should be a dx or si . but the best thing do to would be to look in the engine bay your self.

I've managed to see a Canadian 4 speed standard 4th gen, with a dual point.

FYI - even the auto 4 speed dualpoints use the same hub's as the SI/DX.

This is inconsistent with what many have found. Si has bigger axles than the 4speed cars.

my si also had a d15b2 block and thats what came up on the carfax report but it did have mpfi and was 5 speed. i guess canada had a 1.5 deal going on. i alway thought i had some bootleg si but the vin said ed7 and it had the interior and suspension

Carfax is notorious for detail issues like that...stupid *** website told me my 1991 EX sedan was a 1.3l after I bought it. Right.

So much miss-information here! 1st of all, in Canada we did get a base model. I remember in 1989 looking at one, cost was $9999 at the dealer. It came with plastic seats, no tach, 4 speed std tranny, no rear wiper. Ihave the original brochure for it around somewhere.
The CX was a step up with a 5 speed tranny and the 1.5L 92hp engine, same as the DX model. The standard model engine was a lower hp rating, i can't recall what it was rated at.

Si has bigger axle splines than the 4 speed manual cars, but my stock 90-93 integra axle's slide right into my stock, automatic hubs.

Well, I just got word from the owner tha the car is an MPFI car, and it had a D16 motor, and not a D15. Yes, the VIN# decodes to a Canadian version. So I guess some canadian si's came with D16's also. To be honest, as long as my B16a swaps right in without needing to swap spindles and convert to MPFI, i'll be happy. I just need to go get the car now.

THanks for all of the posts.

Canadian generally refers more to where it was built than where it was from. Your carfax should show where it was first registered, which most likely was not canada.

Most 88-91 hatchbacks were built in canada and then sold in the US, which is where people might get confused.
