94 prelude crankshaft pully bolt removal
Hey guys, I was wondering if you turn it counterclockwise to loosen it. I dont have the hex tool to hold the pully in place and am having problems with it. I just got an impact wrench and want to make sure im going the right way. Any help would be appreciated.
Yep, its just like any other bolt, right to tight, left to loosen. If you need to, you can stick a screw driver between the teeth on the flywheel and the tranny case to hold it in place, but with an impact wrench, I havent had the need to do that.
Hey guys, i tried a 1/2 inch impact wrench at 120 psi and the bolt wont budge. If I got a 3/4 inch impact at the same pressure would that help? My compressor wont go higher than that.
Anyone have any other ideas of how to get this bolt off? So far ive tried a 500 ft-lb impact that i just bought, and a half inch breakover bar with a three foot cheater bar on it that i bent into an s and broke the socket on. Any other ideas would help a ton.
the only thing I can think of is a longer pole. Before I had my impact wrench, I had one on so tight that I ended up using a 6ft metal pole over a 3/4 ratchet and finally got that mother undone
I used an 18" breaker bar, impact socket, and a jack handle, probably about 4 ft long, thought I was about to break the bar before it let loose.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. It took a 2 foot 1/2 inch breakover bar and a 3 foot cheater bar to get it loose, but it finally did. I have another question now. The book isn't very specific, but could you guys tell me where to put the marks to put everything to tdc?
ive changed my pully on my 93 a few times. i went and "barrowed returned" a 3/4 impact from sears. i broke it off, but it still took a bit. my compressor just wasnt strong enough to power it. by if you have a impact like a ir 231c, oil it up real good, and just hit it quick. dont sit there holding the trigger on the gun and just use repeated short burst from the impact. the short burst actually puts out more torque then holding the trigger flat out. Good Luck
on your cams there should be two arrows. they should pointing each other. i think either the oil pump or is it the water pump has a dot or a line on the pulley. the dot or line should on my points top right. and the other doesn't matter. and the balancer shaft doesn't matter. but next time use some white out to mark everything for reference. the reference points can be marked anywhere that is easy for you. also try to bring the two cams gears as close as possible w/o touching when tensioning the belt if you have a manual tensioner.
