Default BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON /HORN DOESNT WORK

just recently i started having a brake light issue, when i hit the brake pedal my door/seat belt light illuminates when i let go it goes off.. when i press my horn the light will also illuminate.. my marker light come on how ever the brake lights do not. i have tried a few things and i am not expert with electrical problems.. i would like to know which grounds to check(and their location) and what else could be my issue..

here is what i have tried:
-corroded tail light bulbs and sockets- replaced with other excellent condition socket and new bulbs
- ground in trunk near brake lights cleaned and reinstalled
- the fuse 10amp no. 8 ..good
- brake light switch got one form advance for 11$ and still doe snot work

questions:
-should my connector leading to the brake light switch have power at all times?- i used my test light and i did not seem to have any.. with no keys in the ignition
-why would my number 12 fuse on my cabin fuse block have power while all otehrs do not- once again with no keys in the ignition?

i had these same symptoms when i shorted my horn fixing the bumper. i had blown a fuse, think it was for the horn but not sure. funny how it affects the brakes!! if your fuses are all good, then you have a bad connection somewhere where you are losing power. it may be possible that the module behind the fusebox is going bad.

i had that problem back when i had my hatchback, it was a fuse in the underhood fusebox, i can't really remember which one? just check them all since they're aren't that many...good luck,

i had the same problem, i had those funny "oogah" horn in my car..the 2 wires were both touching each other, blowing that fuse constantly..make sure the wires are not hitting each other to short it out, then it should be fixed

Check any wiring or modifications you have made...I had a similar problem after installing my radio and kept blowing fuses 'cuz of a bad ground. That's the only real thing I can suggest - Check your grounds on anything you may have recently done. Good luck!

the last wiring modi. i have made within the last yr. was when i installed my NRG removalble steering wheel.. it has worked fine for months and never gave me an issue. Hwoever, i disconnected it this morning to see if the problems persists.. i also cleaned my driverside and pasenger side "door agar" sensors..

questions:
1. where is my horn loacted at?
2. where are the ground for this circuit?. besides the one loacted directly below the hatch latch.
3. would the seat belt buckle cause this?

Does your gauge cluster/dash lights come on? I remember the brake lights and the gauge cluster running off the same fuse. I hooked up my old nitrous check switch to my horn and routed the ground elsewhere while hooking up a separate ground to the chassis. I believe the horn itself would just ground itself to the steering column, but I may be wrong.

The horn should be located in the front...remove your front bumper and you should be able to easily access them.

As for your seatbelt, I'm not sure.

Hate to bump an old thread but this is what prompted me to join honda-tech.com...I am a member of other forums but noticed whenever I google random stuff honda-tech always has the right answer. I recently swapped my dash, installed a new stereo, and did some other interior stuff...shortly thereafter I noticed my horn didn't work and my brake lights were out. I was sure I screwed up something under the dash and in my haste neglected the basics of troubleshooting and overlooked the obvious...sure enough the culprit was the fuse under the hood. Thanks for getting me back on track and reminding me of a valuable lesson.

Thanks, like I said, I hate bumping such an old thread but I just wanted to show my appreciation for the wealth of knowledge here. I am a member of several other online forums but I've noticed that if I google a car-related issue something on honda-tech always pops up. I was having this problem and after reading this thread solved it in seconds.

Hey...old cars, old threads...makes sense!
