Default How to: Repair your 88-91 CRX cargo divider using fiberglass, cheap easy fix.

One of the things about the CRX interiors is the dang cargo panel that pretty much falls apart after years of use and abuse. You can see how bad my DX looked the day I got it but I did have my si unit laying around and it did not look as bad so I went with that one to repair. The problem is the fiber board comes apart around the steel support beam making it sag when closed. I had some fiber glass laying around so I figured I would shoot some pics while I strengthened the panel. Pics are pretty self explanatory so just let me know if I left something out

before

Here I used an exacto knife to cut away the material

Here I am laying down the fiber glass mat before I apply the resin

and here it is all done, I gotta say it is alot more sturdy now. I have not taken pics of it re-installed yet but you can pretty much see how well it looks compared what it DID look like.

sweet pix
they give me hope.

mine is a bit worse though, it doesnt sag, it is broke,
the corners actually flop around
at some point in the past I am sure some rocket scientist thought it a good idea to have a 3rd person ride on top of the cargo bin and hit the gas, throwing the tagger through the divider and breaking the corners.
fortunately the hardware is unharmed, but short of mounting a plank of wood across the top I dont know how to fix it.
I have not worked with fiberglass, dont even know what / where to get
I am not afraid of trying to fix it, just afraid of doing it wrong

any advice/alternatives? I have yet to find a replacement either

i must be blessed then, i have a 91 CRX and mine barely shows signs of wear, just the slightest fabric lift which i fixed with normal glue

having a car that sat in a garage for 4 years ftw!(yes the car was started at least once a month, so the owner says)

Not only is my original one still almost perfect.
I have two or three others, almost perfect, as well, that I've picked up over the years, from junkyards, etc. Just in case.
