GSR Repairs HELP!
Someone attempted to steal my GSR in front of my house a few weeks ago.. they broke the passenger side window, tore off my steering column and drilled into my ignition switch.. i need to replace all of them...
I have a $500 deductible... so I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be easy to change these three items out?? ... or if i should just bring it in and pay the $500??.. i figure.. i can get an ignition from ebay for around $140, a window for around $100... and the steering column for around $50..
so, i figure i would save a few hundred if I can do it myself.. but i don't want to bother if it is too difficult...
anyone have experience with this??? any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!

i would do it if i were you because your insurance will shoot up monthly if you make any claim...
all of those jobs might be a pain bu it will be a learning experience for sure...
get the parts first and ask for help here if you need to...
you can download a free version of a repair manual online if you don't want to buy one

Ok..i got the manual.. and i am trying to pull off the old ignition switch.. but there are two bolts on top of the steering column that I can't turn.. they look like screws with that have been soldered in... how do i get these out?? anyone get these out??
Thanks!
Thanks!
those are break away bolts for the ignition. you can use a dremel to cut a slit on it then use a flat head screw driver to take it out or you can use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to get it loose. l
Yea, just use a flat head screwdriver and a hammer and they will eventually come loose. I had to do the same thing a couple months ago. it is pretty straight forward once you start taking everything apart. when you put the new ignition switch in, you can either just use 10mm bolts, allen head bolts, or you can buy new breakaway bolts from the dealer.
