Im going to be buying a 5spd trans off a 99 civic with 68k miles on it for $300 what should i loook for before actually taking it home??

hard to tell unless you crack it open

 

if theres fluid still in it, id check it see if theres metal shavings in the fluid. but yea theres really not much you can check until its installed

 

grab the input shaft and see if it has play, If it does, you have a shot input shaft bearing. Also try rotating the input shaft and check for roughness, which will acount for bearings about to go, or lack of maintence.

 

s4c stamp maybe. sounds iffy, but maybe you'll score a perfectly good true s4c trans for $300 and not some busted *** LS. i speak from multiple experiences...people try and be so slick sometimes. why i only pick up transmissions and crack the bitches right open.
