After i just recently got my car done i noticed right away that i had a little compressor surge followed by the bov going off but it was very quiet. So i figured that it was delayed due to a bad vacuum source. I figured the line i used was too small for the bov so i replaced the vacuum line with a bigger one. The bov has a good vacuum source now via vacuum manifold with a large line and nipple npt fitting going into the manifold. Now after replacing the line it got a lot better but i can still hear a little bit of compressor surge. The bov is much louder now but before it goes off you can hear a small amount of comp surge yet. I did look at tial's spring chart and i'm pretty sure i have the correct spring. I have the unpainted spring which is good from 18-21 hg's of vacuum. Let me know what you guys think i'm outta ideas.

 

how is it adjusted? do you have it tightened too far?

what are you talking about??


at idle, is the valve slightly open or closed? pop the hood and rev the engine up and watch how the bov reacts. report back here with results.

 

the adjustment screw on the top??? ive seen a few cars comp surge on lower boost with the bov preloaded like that

there is no adjustment screw on tial's. it uses different sized springs.

if you're hearing this "flutter" a little bit with just a bit of load, or just about the time you get into positive pressure, that is actually rather normal. There's barely enough compressed air in the system to open the valve.

Also, just because your line is physically larger, doesn't necessarily mean that it is a line that isn't collapsing. Check the strength of the material of the line to the BOV that you're using, as well as your vaccum source. That should really be it. You have the right spring, so you should be good to go..

Had the same problem so i bought a synapse BOV

 

are you letting go of the throttle very slowly or are you getting surge with normal driving?

I get a bit of surge if I play with the throttle just right at light load. Not that it worries me.

 

how about this......why dont you post your setup, and we'll go from there.

 

check your intake manifold gasket as well

I think this is what i'm hearing now. Because the bov goes off now with a much more "crisp" tone and is much more audible with boost. But yes if i'm just climbing into positive pressure and i let off right away i get a "flutter" noise. Compressor surge has more of a whinning sound this is more just a flutter like what Theshodan said. As far as my line it's not collapsing the line i had on previously may have been but this line is solid...has nylon braiding

Intake manifold gasket has been replaced with a hondata heatshield gasket about 5k miles ago when i rebuilt my motor. Engine pulls about 21-22 hg's of vacuum when at idle and at operating temp.

 

you retorque the intake gasket? they do melt a little and form the the surfaces and the nuts will get a little loose.

No i haven't maybe i should re-torque them? If i had a vacuum leak from my intake manifold wouldn't i notice a surge though? Much less a boost leak from my intake manifold as well?

 

what are you using for boost control, i know with my GM solenoid it would flutter when just getting into to boost then letting off, sounded like comp surge.

 

i have the exact same prob. but the higher the boost, the louder the comp surge right before the bov sound. please let me know what fixes it if you find out

Which spring is in the BOV that you ordered? Is this for a Honda application?

 

new tial q bov w/ 10psi spring civic b18 turbo 21in hg
trying to get a 8 psi spring to see if it helps

 

you tighten up the im gasket yet?

 

ive noticed from my past 2 TIal BOV's that hondas like the smallest spring you can use. I had the old Tial 50mm bov and it came with a 11psi spring..and i had some surge...I ordered the New Tial Q bov and it came with a 8psi spring no surge at all...id get a new spring...just my 0.02.

 

Well i did check my intake manifold bolts...and yes you guys were right they were lose. One was finger lose it was crazy! So i tightened them up and took it for a drive. You can tell the bov is alot better but right before the bov goes off you can hear some slight compressor surge yet. At all psi levels...it's more audible at lower boost level/just climbing into positive pressure. Any more ideas? I'm pretty much down to the spring now and i might do what gringotegra said and get a smaller spring.

 

good deal...trust me get the smaller spring and it will be all you need!! Tial BOV's when using the correct spring will not give you surge! there is a reason they are used on really high horsepower cars..they are the best

12 psi
11 psi
9 psi
7 psi

right now i'm running the 11 psi spring...should i just go one lower or all the way down to a 7 psi?
