90 CRX Help
I've got a 1990 CRX HF and I've got a check engine light coming on. I checked the reed flashes on that thing underneath the floormat in the passenger side and it was #12

defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor
* not a valid code if car is not equipped with an EGR valve (some Civic models are not)
but what does this mean. Do I even have an EGR valve, and if I do where and what does it do? If not, what does this mean. Could I have done the CEL thing wrong. I didn't do anything, but look at it. Some people have said to take out a fuse or something.. I didn't do that.
Thanks

Youre kidding right? He just posted like 6 pages from the manual telling you what it does and how to fix it if youre throwing code 12.

Thanks Bob.
I can read the manual.. and thanks for the useless reply.
I was wondering if anyone had encountered this problem before and could give any insights or if I should just go through and start dismantling things. Also, I don't have a Vacuum Pump/gauge so is there another way to test if the EGR Valve is working. I've never had a car with an EGR valve before, that I know of.

if u dont need the device for smog in ur state then u could just get a pm6 ecu from an si and not worry about. other wise if its plygged in then the chances are that it is a defective part. egr stands for exhuast gas recirculation. its a emmsions related device, and does exactly what the name implies. only the hf models uses it for 88-91 ef chassis cars. so ur options are to try and replace it with a know good one if u dont have the test equipment. or get ur hands on a pm6 ecu. hope that helps.

the ecu is the box with the blinking led. the one mentioned is for a d16, came in the si model. you may be able to take your egr valve out and clean it/lubricate it to get it working again. a new one is about 150 bucks. the ecu may be cheap if you can find one locally. actually i may have one in the garage if you need it
