Default Hello! New guy with a coupla questions

Hello everyone. I'm Eric and I am new to this whole thing. I just bought a 2005 Civic SI 5 speed 2 days ago, and I have built and tweaked many high performance cars, but this is my first 4 cyl. Is there anywhere I can go that can give me some little tips or tricks to give it more get up and go? It does not seem to have a whole lot of spunk. At least not as much as I expected.

I appreciate all of your help and input and also look forward to getting to know everyone. Thanks for letting me join!

Eric

I sure do appreciate the help. The problem is that I am not sure what I would even be searching for. Also, the FAQ's...What page are they at the top of? I can find them no where. Again, thanks for your reply!

welcome bud.. searching is key. there is alot of information on how to make power, what works and what doesnt, and plenty of threads on people using different things and trying them out. search around and you should be able to find everything you need..

if you really cant find a single thing on a very unique problem or question, post it up and we'd be happy to help.. welcome again

The warm welcome is greatly appreciated!

I am just after little tricks or things to do. I know absolutely NOTHING about this car or motor. I am embarrassed to say that I don't even know what a vtec is!...lol

Well Eric, VTEC is a special thing. Truth be told, we humans don't really understand VTEC or know all that much about it. The only fact we do know is that sense the begging of time there has always been VTEC, and as a result its likely that there will always be VTEC. There are those who believe that VTEC is really what keeps the earth rotating on its axis, holds objects to the earth, filters harmful radiation from the suns rays, and keeps people up at night pondering creation. On the other end though, there are those who blame VTEC for war, a failing Social Security system, teen suicide, and the alarming number of automobile accidents in the US. Some would have you believe that the Japanese people created VTEC, but this is a lie! The folks at Honda being the scholars that they are just learned how to harness VTEC and turn in into a force that we could use in our lives more freely. I don't honestly claim to know what VTEC is and i doubt anyone really knows. What i do know however is that when i place my foot on the gas peddle and press real hard, after 4600 rpms my car gets a burst of power that wasn't there before. It starts to make noises that sound like cam angles advancing, lobs changing, valves reaming open for milliseconds longer, and more air naturally being compressed into cylinders causing it create more combustion and thus generate power from nowhere! And after all that is said an done, a smile forms on my face and and i thank the good Lord for VTEC and the people at Honda who learned how to harness this magical force.
If you have any other questions about VTEC, check out this video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ECB...lated
sorry for the sarcasm but i couldn't resist.

It only has 160hp and it's a 2800lb car...not sure what you expected but given those stats I hope not too much. Before you search, know that the typical boltons will help some, but they won't make it a speedster. Unfortunately only a supercharger or turbocharger will do that.

A for VTEC--know that your car has, what is basically, VTEC for fuel economy and not performance, like the RSX Type S.

I was seeing in another thread here that someone was saying that their vtec was not working right...how can you fix something like that? I just ran out my first tank of gas and only got 223 miles on it. That was NOT having my foot in it at all. I drove it real easy on purpose.

What does your SI's run at 60 mph RPM wise? I believe that mine is high at 3850 or so. There is not much difference from 4th to 5th. I am told it is all stock. Do yours run that high RPM?

are you sure it's at 3850 in 5th gear at 60 mph? That sounds like my rsx-s' 5th gear and IIRC, my gearing is shorter than yours as I have a 6th gear.

Mine is at 4000 at about 71 mph. Your's seem too high.
