2001 Prelude odd ignition assembly problem
Hi Guys,
It's been a while since I've posted last, but hoping someone can shine some light on my situation. I have a 2001 Prelude with a very odd ignition problem. Whenever I put the key in the ignition, it often turns and starts with no problems. However, other times I put the key in, turn it and the dash lights come on but nothing happens. I simply roll it backwards, and forwards again several times and it'll start. I noticed that the green key light blinks whenever this happens but I'm not so sure it's related. After several times it will eventually start with no problems. The car is completly stock, with no electrical modifications at all, even down to the stearo. I'm a bit baffled by this, although I know there was a recall for the ignition but I belive it's for a seperate issue concerning the shifter-saftey lockout. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Matt

Sounds like there might be a problem with the immobilizer unit (or possibly with your key). The only thing I could think to try would be to have a regular key cut from a blank and try it in the ignition. It should NOT start the car; it should exhibit the same symptoms as when your key does not start the car if there is a problem with either your original key or the immobilizer system. Do you have the red colored key to your car? If it does turn out to be a key problem, you will need the red key in order to have Honda make you a new key that will work (each car has a unique code programmed into the immobilizer system and the red key allows you to re-program a new key).
I had the same exact problem as you. The car would sometimes not start at all and would often times turn off while going down the road. I ended up putting a whole new oem ignition assmebly in the car. never had a problem after that.
