Default Targa sealed shut!?!?

Alright.. i'm new to these forums and all so please bear with me... i'm looking into getting myself a 95 del sol with a d15b swap. i've done some research and have heard issues about the targa leaking on lots of them. most people have been saying they just get new seals for it, running a few hundred bucks. that's not a problem for me.. my problem is the previous owner of the car (it's at a dealership now) has literally sealed the targa shut... as in it doesn't come off!! one of the big reasons i'd like a del sol is because of the targa.. duh lol the only reason i can think the guy sealed it is because it was leaking, and he didn't want to put the money into new seals or whatever

so anyways, it looks like it's silicone or caulk or some crap the guy used to keep it shut... my question is there a product or something available to remove or break down the silicone crap? or would prying the targa off and getting a new one and brakets be a better route?? if at all possible, i'd rather try to save the original targa because the car looks like it has a new paint job on it (unless metallic red was factory)

if anyone has any suggestions or has heard of this before.. please let me know!!! greatly appreciated!

I thought only the first two years usually had the leaking issues, but I could be wrong about the years.

Your best bet might be peeling a lot of it off. I don't know how you'll manage to get the roof off the car in the first place though.

yea that's what i heard also.. the '95 + were supposed to have different seals that worked out better.. guess there were a few exceptions haha

but yea, popping it off might be a hassle.. but forgot to mention.. i haven't even bought the car yet, it's still at the dealer, i only checked it out today, drives great, just the targa is nagging me... just the one issue keeping me at bay for now... not too many del sols around my area to go shopping for, so guess i'll try and look around for some stuff to maybe get rid of the sealer crap he put in, if anything's out there

but i do appreciate the input, thanks!

He could have also somehow damaged the seal.

if you really like this car and it has no other issues, see if they will install new seals as part of the purchase price,or at least get them to remove the top without damaging it before you buy the car, then you could buy and install them at home.

yea that has been a thought of mine... maybe have them reduce the price of it like 300 dollars... i've been told the seals are going for that much from honda!! so maybe they'd do something like that, i'll have to give a call tomorrow since it is sunday haha
thanks man

How does a '95 del Sol with a swap still have the factory warranty?

i won't expect them to necessarily install them... that i can do myself, i'd almost rather do it myself lol... but i think they should at least either include them with the price of the car or drop the price of it or give me more for my trade value or something like that...

then i'd say we'd have a deal
