brake question?
hey guys, i have a 98 accord lx and 2 months ago i change my front rotors and brake pad but i didn't have enuff $ to put on the back brakes. Now 2 months later my back brakes are sounding and the brake pedal seems very weird to me.Like the brake pedal doesnt have any pressure. But everyone tells me that it fine don't worry about it. but i know there not,so my friend told me that it my master cylinder.. is this right? and how much am i looking at to fix this? thanks mel
Does the Master Cylinder lose pressure?
Try putting the car in gear and hold the brake pedal in the exact spot to keep the car from moving. A bad master will lose pressure after a minute or so and the car will start creeping.
Also look on the face of the booster under the M C for fluid seeping.

I'm hearing no reason to jump right to thinking the master cylinder is bad.
You could have air in the system (did you open any part of the system?)
You could have a leak somewhere (are you losing fluid from the reservoir?)
Your brake pads could be wrong or seized.
etc....

I am not losing any fluide. If I pump the break while the car is off it gets stiff, but as soon as I start the car it loses all pressure. There is no air in the break lines.

Can you pump up the pedal with the engine running, or does it just go to the floor every time?
Does the car stop well?
Did you ever take the rear brakes apart and inspect them? A low pedal can be from drum brakes being out of adjustment.
Do you have rear drum or disc?

I am having a similar problem. with the car running I can pump the brakes & it builds pressure. but the first pump goes nearly to the floor. when the car is not running the pedal is pretty stiff... I have bled the system probably over 100 times now
if you even think it may be the master cylinder watch this video, also i just had to replace mine, usually if the MC is going you will have pressure in the brakes if you hit the pedal hard but then after a little bit the pressure is lost, like a previous person said if you go to a stop and the pedal stops you and you hold the pedal in place and it ends up reaching the floor just to keep the car in place it is the MC

Master Cylinder, why you haven't replaced it already is beyond me.
Did you bench bleed first to clear out air in the MC?
Did you adjust the plunger to specs?
Was there any fluid in or on the booster?
this was on 6spd_ek's hatch, sorry for the confusion. yes MC was bench bled. The plunger was not adjusted as it seems fine when the car is NOT running. There was no fluid in or on the booster. the seal was replaced as well
