Vtec question 96 accord
Yes, but if you have bolt ons to amplify the engine sound, and lower the VTEC x-over, you can definitely here it.
Will this bring up the VTEC engagement debate on F22B1s again?
Regardless, stock xover is 5250, which is high considering how F22/23 motors have a small powerband.

A 96 EX would have to be a F22B-something I think.
There's been quite a bit of debate around here about the F-series VTEC xover. It really seems that the Accord xover is below 3,000 RPM and is really just to make for a smoother idle instead of top end rush.
Many 5th gen owners will swear the xover is above 5,000 RPMs.

this is the first time ive been over in this forum and im not trying to start any debates, his car has no modifications so far its bone stock, just wanted to know if that was normal, thanx for the help guys
I have a 95 Accord EX and I cannot really hear the crossover either. VTEC does depend on temperature conditions, oil and quite possibly a couple of other things I do not remember. I remember reading everything about it, i'll try and find it.
Never once felt VTEC in our 96 EX. I only mash on it maybe 10 times. I was brand new so we took really good care of it. Bone stock. It had get-up-and-go, but couldn't feel anything. Automatic too. Oh well, sold it a while ago.

the vtec xover for this car is very mild (xover for type r is aggressive) so you wont actually hear it but rather you kinda feel it. Okay put on an intake and floor it(where theres no one around) and when your rpms start to climb you'll feel a constant trust even in the high rpms range (type r you feel an surging trust in the high rpm range). most domestics are okay in the low end but in the high end they loose their trust, that where we beat them!

Is it documented anywhere when the VTEC is supposed to kick in. I want to feel it in my V6 but this damm break in period is killin me. The engine redlines @6500 so i'd imagine it comes on a 4K or lower but what do i know.

Strange, I can feel it somewhat, but it is at 4000rpm when I feel it.
also I want to say the VTEC band is only 2000RPM wide. not sure where I heard/read/dreamed up this fact but it makes sense that the motor kicks over 4000 and 6000 since the red line is 6500.
I can also say that in every gear I consistenly notice as do my passenger what I beleive to be the VTEC kicking in at 4K. you don't have to strain to hear it at all.

That's not VTEC. That's your peak torque. The VTEC engagement point is reputed to be at 5250.
Good job at noticing that with your butt-dyno, though.

yes but if you look at dyno charts the epeak torque usualy comes close to the VTEC crossover point. so what about that?
I still say that the VTEC engages at 4k on 5th gens

I lowered my crossover point to 3500 RPMs and now I feel and hear it!!
It's not like my tires start spinning out of control or something it just gets a little deeper tone and when accelerating it just seems to pull much easier.
With the Apexi VAFC it tells you exactly when your on the high cam lobe so when I see the Vto on I can feel the difference immediately.
I wonder if someone who just installed their VAFC or maybe if someone wants to initialize their settings would they leave their vtec x-over point factory and see when it says Vto on so we know for sure.
