Default Kumho 711's discontinued (please recommend me similar tire 205/40r17)

Hey guys i was pretty happy with the 205/40r17 kumho 711 tires. My have been a tad noisy but otherwise smooth, good looking, but most importantly EXCELLENT TREADWEAR!! These tires are on my girlfreind's EJ8 which has a 2" drop. She does no performance driving, just a daily street driver. Looking for a value performer, good quality, and most importantly EXCELLENT TREADWEAR.

A salesman at a local shop tires23.com recommended me the federal ss-595. not so sure about these tires. i had faith in Kumho, sad they discontnued the 711's, the 712's were awesome tires, but sucked on treadwear. {Please recommend me a great tire! thanks.

I had Kumho MX for years, and I have SPT on my wife's TL S.

Go get the SPT as they are about the same price of the 711 and 712 series. You will be happy.

The 711 and 712 were really crappy summer tires. When the 712 was introduced in the 1990s all you could get for a cheap price was crappy tires, but that changed around 2001 when Yokohama introduced the ES100, and most competing brands (including Kumho and Yokohama) have since introduced new models of inexpensively-priced summer tires that are way better than anything you could get before that.

You don't mention whether she will be using these on her '97-00 Civic in the winter on snow and in frigid cold, or if she has a separate set of winter tires so that these will only be used the rest of the year, in moderate to warm weather.

If these will be used in winter as well as summer, then she really needs an all-season tire, for the flexibility of use in a wide variety of weather conditions. In that case, I recommend the Kumho Ecsta ASX. It's a great all-season tire at a very affordable price.

If she has separate winter tires, and these won't be used on snow, then she can take advantage of the better performance of summer tires. In that case, I recommend the Kumho SPT or the Fuzion ZRi. Both offer excellent performance and treadlife at an affordable price.

Even if they won't be used in winter, you also might consider the all-season ASX anyway if you are looking for better treadwear and you don't mind sacrificing some performance in exchange. Although the SPT offers excellent treadwear for a summer tire - typically 25-45K miles - the ASX will last even longer, maybe one third more miles. Or kilometers, in your case.

I would not get off-brand tires (like the Federal tires, which are made in Taiwan).

The SPT has NOT been discontinued in 205/40-17 or in other sizes. Certain retailers (e.g. Tire Rack) tell people that because they can't keep them in stock (due to demand) and they want people to buy whatever they have on hand.
