I got a 5pt racing harness today from a co-worker for really cheap. I am debating either just selling it or putting it in my CRX. It looks good in there, but I don't want to be using it daily. I would probably only use it at the track/autocross, and use my stock seatbelt the rest of the time and have the harness tightened to the back of the seat when not in use.

Has anyone put one in their CRX, and where did you mount the brackets? I was going to take the 2 chest straps, combine them in the back middle of the seat, and have them mount straight down to where the floor comes up right behind the seat. Problem is, I don't know if my gas tank is right there, and if the metal there is strong enough. I am also not sure where to mount the side brackets. To the floor, or to the side of the console/bottom under the door? Anyone done this before and can give me some info?

if you mount that thing to the floor behind your seat...bad idea! i asked about doing this before and i have been told by many people that if it is done that way when /if you get involved in an accident it will compress your spine. if your gonna do it do it right.

if you want to mount it to the floor get a harness guide bar.

 

Agreed, NEVER EVER mount the shoulder straps behind the seat. You want to maintain a 45 to 90 degree angle from your shoulders. As for mounting, I'm going to just drill some holes and put some bolts through the floor in the back section of the car.
