Default Adjusting/Replacing Alternator Belt

So my '00 Civic DX has been whining/squealing in a high pitched sound for the past 2-3 months and I'm finally fed up with it. I'm pretty sure it's the alternator belt because it happens when I'm almost stopping, turn on my headlights/AC/etc. Sometimes if I rev my engine it will go away for a little bit, but it always comes back... I'm guessing the belt is loose.

How to I tighten and/or replace the alternator belt? Is it pretty easy to do...?

Too tight eh? I assumed it was loose and can't get any "grip" which causes the squealing...

Any other help?

its loose, its really hard to over-tighten it. you need to loosen 2 bolts on the alternator bracket and get a crow-bar and slide the alternator toward the steering wheel and tighten those bolts. when ur done a little bar of soap on the underside will lubricate it and stop it from squeeling

good luck

crowbar=prybar, use it to pry the alternator away from head, thus creating tension on the belt (tightening it). its the only way to get it tight enough, it would take super human effort by hand.
