Default Rim Sizes

I have a 2000 Honda Civic LX and I recently posted about painting my hubcaps. I am considering getting black rims and I wanted to know what you guys thought. Should I get 14's 15's or 16's? I don't want my car to look ridiculous because I've seen cars with 22's and they look stupid. Does the size of the rims affect the performance? If I am the type to drive slightly above the speed limit would I be better off and safer with 14's? Would 16's put too much weight on my cars system? What would you do?

16's

More than likely 16's with tires will weigh less than 13" steelies with tires. 16's fit very nicely, I'll post pics if you want them.

You can also cruise through the "official 96-00 4dr thread" in the club section. That'll give you a good idea of what color rims and what size look good. Over 100 pages with pictures on mostly every page.

I'll put them up in a minute. They would look way better if my car was painted nicely and not so dirty.

BTW, didn't think about you having a 2000. I've got a 94, but I think 16's would fit well on the newer Civics also.

I'm not a fan of all 15's, just because it really depends on the type of tire you get since there is more sidewall showing. Here are 16's on my hatch. Don't hate on a daily driver project car haha. Dropped about 2" I believe, maybe a tad more or less.

IMO, 16s look best on our cars.... A minor drop does wonders for the 4x4 look though.

Here's a few from the 96-00 Sedan Thread:
(if any owners don't want them up, just say so and I'll get rid of them)

Man, I really want my car lower now, except I can barely make it out of my torn up drive, let alone around the city. I take train tracks at 55 everyday so any lower would be outright madness.

I do like the way those suckers sit though. I wish this thing was an all out project so I could do what needs to be done, without worrying about having to jump in it tomorrow.

Then the question becomes... 40 or 45 series for tires??

Hrm. I believe to keep my stock wheel size I had to go 40 series. See my picture above. THey have a reinforced sidewall too, which only the 40 series offered which was weird.

I would really try to keep the overall size the same as stock, so your MPG/MPH will be accurate.

Check tires.com or something for proper sizes for your car. Don't just look up stock sizes, use the plus sizing thing to figure out what you need. Their wheel/tire combos are plus sized if you choose it for your car.

I had 40s as well on my old hatch... I'm rockin the steelies with hubcaps on the Sedan right now though.

Maybe for 45s I'm thinkin of people with 15s...

Since the rims are bigger . . . . will it affect my mph/mpg readings?

It depends on the car. I like 15s and 16s and some cars can pull off 17s (but not many 6th gen Civics imo).

Most stock wheels will be no larger than 15 inch, but they'll be cheap, easier to find locally (and replace if needed), no shipping and little wait.

16" looks the best on sedans i think.

This was mine on 16" with a 45 tire:
