Factory Sub Replacement
Factory amp isn't powerful enough to power most aftermarket subs. If you're going to replace the sub then you might as well get a small aftermarket amp to go along with it.
I'll agree with Rico, but I was wondering if anyone might replace the 8inch with an after market sub of the same size, and retained the mounting?

If you do that you better make sure it's a free-air sub. Free air subs (like the stock one) do not require an enclosure to function.
However most aftermarket subs are NOT free-air and DO require an enclosure.....in that case it wouldn't sound very good to put a sub like that in the stock location. You would get very very little if not any bass out of the sub.

Mostly true...but a lot of 8" subs are designed to replace OEM subs. Not too many people put 8" subs in a box. Most manufacturers realize that people purchasing 8" (and anything smaller than 10") subs are probably looking to replace an OEM sub in its original location.

They COULD replace OEM subs....but unless it's designed for free air performance you won't get alot out of it and could ultimately prematurely damage the sub. Free air subs are designed a little differently than enclosure subs.
JL Audio used to make a free air sub but they discontinued it.
Kicker Comps however do function pretty good as a free air sub. There are probably a few others out there that can do the trick, but the Comps are the only ones that I have seen in action in a vehicle as both free air or enclosed.
