Default H22 with h23 crankshaft OR h23vtec

which one should i do.

seems like the h23vtec is too much work.
i already got a (usdm) h22a and was wondering.

which of these swaps will make more power.
h23 vtec or should i just swap over the h23 crankshaft and rods into my h22.
but im using type s pistons.

help me.
thanks

if you have a stock h23 short block, h23vtec is pretty darn easy.. tearing down the h22 and rebuilding it as h23 takes the same amount of work as rebuilding your h22.

If you use type S pistons, you will also have to modify your rods to accept the floating wrist pins.

another thing to think about when using type s pistons, with the h23's stroke, the compression ratio increases significantly.

type s pistons+h23 crank+stock headgasket = ~12.1:1 compression ratio..
Needless to say, it will need serious tuning, and for the motor to see it's full potential, it's going to need much more than 92 octane.

H23 block, H22 block with H23 crank and rods there is no difference.

h23vtec isnt to much diff from swapping a h23 cranks and rods into my h22 block?
is that wat u saying..

well yea. i kinda did my math on this.

h23 crank and rods with type s piston. will be at 12:1 BUT im using a thick head gasket to lower the compression.
so it should be back to 11:8 i think..

will i still have to mod my rods for the floating wrist pin since im using the h23 rods?
wat kind of mods do i need to do to them.
noob at H series builds =[

its using the H22 pistons on H23 crank and rods that is the problem. the compression heights are different so an H22 piston will stick out of the block if you use H23 crank and rods. you dont NEED to modify the rods but for safety and security you should have a bronze bushing pressed into the rod end (less friction for full floating wrist pins). But you should be able to pull off the right clearances with a thicker head gasket as you were planning. go here

and do the math to figure out what you are working with.

not all h22 pistons are floating, it wasn't until the a4's that they did that so depending on that you may be ok without modding the rods.

type-s pistons are floating wrist pins.
