Default which exhaust to choose

I have a 99 honda prelude and I want to buy a catback exhaust for it. I already have DC header and an AEM intake and i don't care if the exhaust brand matches any of these. I don't care too much about sound, I'd like a deep sounding not too loud exhaust but not a big deal too me. What i really care about is performance, I want horse power but i really want torque. Which catback exhaust system do you think would deliver the most horses and/or the most torque?

Piece something together.
Whats your price range anyway?

I like the vibrant axle back. (4th gen where I live it was $290, I think they make them for the 5th gen aswell). Comes with the silencer that I leave in, but it sounds wicked with it out. Sounds like a 5L stock dual exhaust rustang(honestly too, I've got sound clips of both and they sound identical untill the lude hits over 5000 of course lol) With silencer in, it honestly doesn't differ from stock dual tips untill you stomp on it. I should transfer over the sound clips from my lap top and post them. You need to be a member of photobucket or something though to post???

You could go open/gutted cat if its a track car and than have the "S" pipe custom bent at a exhaust shop.

You could also do the collector mod at a shop and up your 2.25 to 2.5 and than piece together a 2.5 exhaust all the way back. Just depends on your doller situation.

Yes, as always...never allowed to forget...tune...tune.......tune...
Should "Remember to TUNE" just be perminentely posted on the forum? How about in that open grey space beside the headings of which forums your in?
It would save from alot of 1 line comments/posts that should be known by all anyway!

One question about tuning though while we are on the subject. The stock obd1 ecu's p13 and p14 have some ability to self adjust? (closed loop) I've done lots of research into other ecus (p28/po6/p72, etc etc etc etc...endless trust me) but never the stock ones. If so though, to what peramiters? They seem to self tune when you upgrade your intake and reset ecu correct? You change header/ cat back, you reset ecu and notice the difference. Is that not the same for other Tuneable ecu's? The other ecu's do not learn by themselves but can be programmed? Vise or versa the prelude ecus self tune, but can't be reprogrammed?

It has been proven that the stock ecu (p13/p14) can even handle mild boosts (2-3) psi without going into limpmode, or showing cels, (an example).

ApexiWsp2 is a very nice sounding, quality system that runs about 400$.

And a larger diameter exhaust isn't going to help with that DC header in front of it.

As mentioned, you probably won't see a ton of gains, but it will help some. If you're looking for bolt on systems, Greddy is a safe choice; Apexi N1 should yield higher numbers but is louder. Fujitsubo is known for making good exhausts, but don't know if they made any for the Prelude. Another option is to have a custom mandrel-bent exhaust fabbed up with your preferred brand of muffler; at that point you could go for a higher-flowing cat as well.

-And welcome to HT, btw

Unless you mod the DC header and pair it up with some decent bolt ons. TUNING is ket once you get all your mods on. Good luck
