Default 90+ flywheel and 88 tranny, what clutch combo?

so i'm swapping in my spare engine in my 88. i want to use a 90+ flywheel, but my 88 tranny is still good for the street.

i remember there is a combination i can use to match the splines of the 88, and diameter of the 90+ flywheels.

anyone know?

or should i just use the complete 88 kit on the bigger flywheel?

Always use the clutch that matches the transmission.

The release bearing/pressure plate/disk anyway...flywheel has options

found a great site to see all the dimetions on the clutch parts on all/most of the honda cars.

http://www.clutchcityonline.com/standard.htm

What you need is a
8 3/8" disc. diam.
7/8" spline diam.
21 spline

The 86-89 honda accord 2.0L clutch disks are
8 1/4" disc diam.
7/8" spline diam.
21 spline

1/8" smaller plus its $42.86

88 clutch disc info

200MM X 21 SPLINE

ACURA INTEGRA
ACCORD 79-85
CIVIC 1988
PRELUDE 79-87

88-89 Accord clutch disc info

212MM X 21 SPLINE

ACCORD 86-89
PRELUDE 85-87

so i would say use a 90+ 210mm clutch cover (or 92-95 vtec, which is 212mm... yet 90-95 all use the same flywheel...) let us know!

I'm running a 88 trans with my 90 lightweight flywheel.

I used the 90 flywheel, 90 pressure plate and a 86-89 clutch disk.

well i made an order yesterday with GRIPFORCE, the rep i was talking to said it wouldnt work so i just bought the standard 88 kit anyway.

but then i got more information from you guys and saw that clutchcityonline has a specific kit including the 90 flywheel to fit a 88 tranny. i asked if they can give me that kit without a new flywheel and they said no problem. so i cancelled my order with gripforce. theyre charging me 10% cancellation on a $100 order, so whatever. beer money i guess...

at least CCO knows whats up. i recommend anyone going straight to ClutchCityOnline if youre interested in this setup.

odd tho, they dont list the accord flywheel as what they provide in the kit. it actually matches the 8 3/8 full diameter of the 90 flywheel. the accord is listed as 8 1/4, 1/8 short. so it looks like they found a better alternative.

when i get the kit, i'll let you guys know for sure.

so i put the clutch in today. along with swapping a new engine. with so much else to worry about, im glad there was no drama with the clutch fitment.

i was hugely pleased that the disc was actually 212mm. so it was NOT from an accord. its perfect, 21 splined and fit a 1990 pressure plate and used my 16 lb SOHC ZC flywheel.

clutch city online definately pulled thru. im so glad i cancelled my order with gripforce. their customer service was definately lacking in comparison.
