Default REF TICKET! WHAT DO I NEED!

I'm running a b18c3 motor in my eg and i recently got pulled over for a so called "No third brake light" which he didn't right me a ticket for and wrote instead CVC 27156(b) Smog violation because he popped my hood. My question is what exactly do i need for the ref to pass me? i've looked endlessly through forums trying to find specifics because i was told refs are very specific when it comes to fixing things. Any input would be helpful. Thank you

that sounds like BS to me, I don't know about there but in MN most cars don't have a third brake light. If you can go to court and prove that he had no just cause to pull you over then they have to drop the charge because he couldn't legally pull you over.

I THINK that's how it works, not 100% sure though so check into it.

they can pull you over for just about anything as long as he/she has probable cause or suspicion(sp?), if you have exhaust he could've pulled you over for excessive noise. i wouldn't take it to court because they almost always win. either way you look at it you're driving an illegal setup and they know that now.

good luck.

Whats wrong with your smog?

The third tail light means nothing, don't even bother with it, whether he legally pulled you over or not it really doesn't matter imho, as wrong as it sounds the chance of them dropping an unrelated ticket for that is unlikely.

Find out whats wrong with your smog, fix it, take a picture of it, bring it to court, and if hes not there straight up say I dont know what hes talking about, this is legal.

edit: this was partially a response to:

Does the charcoal canister have to be connected? If it does, anyone have one for sale?

You obviously either not from california or dont know what you're talking about. The OP has to go to the ref, which is just a state ran smog station. All you have to do is make sure you have all smog equipment hooked up as it came from the factory. Make sure you're running the right ecu and if you have after market parts they have to be carb approved

well right off the bat, im gonna say that i think your gonna fail ref. mainly because in the us there was no B18c3, unless you made a typo. i kno that the motor translates to a US model B18c1/5 but im assuming that since there is no possible way to ref a B16B motor (becuase it wasnt offered in US). but hey i could be wrong. what kind of car were u driving?

Basically you have to be able to pass smog. All your smog equipment has to be hooked up and any aftermarket parts have to be CARB Legal. Start from your air filter and go down the line to your exhaust. Everything has to be legal.

B18C3 is an integra motor. Small car motor. So, from your quote you're saying that because the motor was never offered in the US it can't be made smog legal in California?

So all those people who Bar'd their JDM motors don't exist? If the motor was offered in a car, and is newer than the chasis of the car, it can be bar'd. B20 = CRV motor. CRV listed as light truck motor, therefore NOT Bar'able.

I think you cant go to court to fight it cause well you are currently driving a car with an engine swap that hasnt passed bar from what Ive read in order to pass bar youre just suppose to have everything from the original motor and you cannot have any CAI unless they are what injen or K&N

your not reading my postings right, im talkin about the stamping. take for example the B16B CTR motor, its not reffable in CA because it was never offered in the us but the B16a2/3 were. i know jdm motors are reffable, but hey im not the ref to the OP, you gotta go to state ref here is the number give them a call and see what happens 1.800.622.7733

I got my JDM GSR B18C pass BAR inspection.

All I did was swap the motor and install it just like the way it is on a USDM GSR. All sensors, hoses, and wiring where they're supposed to go. Made sure I didn't have a CEL, using the proper ECU, and catalytic converter. Passed 1st try.
