Sport II is a nice helmet, I have one myself. $299 is about the going rate for that helmet. The Bell M2 is very similar, but has a larger eyeport. You can see these helmets here: http://www.soloracer.com/helmets.html
It depends on what you are going it for:
Check the snell rating on the inside of the helmet (usualy under the padding)
AutoX: Snell M or SA, 95+
Track: Snell SA only, 95+
and make sure it fits well.

I thought the sport II was SA2000.
Chris, who isn't sure about spending 260 on a helmet.
Edit: http://www.soloracer.com/bellsportii.html it is SA2000

I would NEVER buy a helmet without trying it on first. You can do all the measuring you want, but when you try a bunch on - ones that are all supposed to be the right size - you'll find that a few are comfortable but many are very uncomfortable.
AutoX: Snell M or SA, 95+
Track: Snell SA only, 95+
Track: Snell SA only, 95+
Most groups allow only the two most recent Snell standards, which come out every five years. That means that, in another 3-4 years, no one will allow you to use your Snell SA95 helmet.
More about Snell standards on their website, here.
Since this is related to my question about helmets: what about the Bieffe Predator? Any opinions on that one? Anyone know where is an affordable place to buy helmets in the LA, CA area, or anywhere in SoCal?
BTW, that OG racing price actually says $279, not 259.

I wholeheartedly agree with nsxtcjr. NEVER buy a helmet without first trying it on. If you're gonna be autoxing/tracking the car, do you want a helmet that isn't comfortable? Here are some examples of why. I took my friend to a local shop to buy a Bell Sport II. He and I are all about the BEST deal, which isn't a local shop, but I insisted. He tries the large one on, and his face looks like a giant chipmunk and the helmet fit so badly that you could see the bottom of his chin. Next he tried on a XL, and he was just swimming around in it. I've seen this happen before, so I asked the lady to bring out another Sport II in large. This one fit very very nicely. Same size as the first one, but totally different fits. We both agreed that the extra money at the local shop was well spent, and since it was a family owned place, we didn't mind too much. My other example is my motorcycle helmet. Bought it online, it was a tad big, didn't think it was that big of a deal til I went on the highway. Aynthing over 80 MPH, the helmet started lifting off my head and I had trouble seeing out of it. Luckily the company was really cool and let me exchange helmets, but they dont sell SA2000 and I dunno if thye even changed policies (it was a while back).
As for me, I was gonna get the Sport II as well, but after trying on all sorts of diff Bell helmets, I tried on an OMP helmet, and it fit PERFECTLY. At $500, it better! Since I don't want ANY sort of distractions, I bought it, and althought it killed me financially, I have NEVER regretted the purchase.

How do you post those links that have a description instead of the link, like you did?
How do you post those links that have a description instead of the link, like you did?
Let's say you want to point someone to the Snell site, but you want to call it "Snell site". This is what you would type in - but leave out ALL spaces when you type it except the one between "Snell" and "site" (I'm inserting the spaces in this post just so it doesn't just convert what I'm trying to show you to a link):
[ url = http : // www . smf . org ] Snell site [ / url ]
Just be careful if you type in more than one link in a single post. If you don't get it right the first time, and you have to go back and edit your post, the h-t.com software often mangles the different links together so they don't look right, and then you have to go back and fix them again.
