Got a New Accord a few questions
Hi guys sorry for such newbie questions and if you have a newbie faq i'd be glad to read it. I picked up my new Accord EX V6 yesterday and have a few questions.
My sunroof doesn't seem to open all the way. It stops about 4 or 5 inches from the back..I assume this is normal?
I want to use synthetic oil in my car and have allways used Mobil 1 5w-30 in my cars but i see the Honda manual says to use 5w-20?
I live in California where the weather is allways pretty warm and can get hot sometimes in the summer. Is the 5w-20 thick enough to protect? And what company makes synthetic in this weight?
For the break in period I guess I'll just take it easy on the throttle. Any other break in tips?
Should I wait any special length of time to change the oil the first time. I know some car companies put special "break-in" oil in the engine that should be left in for awhile.
Thanks for any help you have.

I'm going to use it. If for anything.. longer drain intervals.
I've done lots of research on oils and deposit build up and flash points with conventional oil are far worse then synthetic over the long run.

Be forewarned that many Hondas that convert to synthetic will leak, as the engine seals use the impurities of conventional oil as a sealant.
thats nonsense. Show me this in a technical note or document. I find it hard to imagine engineers would design an engine that relies on sludge deposit build up so they don't leak.
If that were indeed true my engine would be leaking right now since it takes thousands of miles for deposits to build up.

Some leak, some don't. It's as simple as that. Go and ask any Honda mechanic, and they'll recommend that you stay with conventional oil.

To answer your sunroof question, if the 6G Accord sunroof is anything like my 5G, they don't go back all the way. That is definitely one of my design complaints about Hondas: sunroofs are simply too small.
1. vary your speed
2. change your oil at the recommended time for the first oil change and then follow the owners manual after that
3. Do not use any "Magic" additives.
most of all avoid WOT untill after the breakin period
Your car should last you 200,000 plus if you maintain it

I believe it is when you switch after using conventional after many miles.
Such as used conventional for 60,000 miles and now switching to synthetic.

I have a ex v6 coupe, and my mother in-law has a 4door ex v6. Her sunroof opens more than mine. Because the roof of the car is shorter on a 2 door.
It is really common sense.

I've got a 93 Accord with 239,000 miles on it, I've been using dino oil all along with absolutely no problems. No white smoke, and I think I got my money out of the car, plus I haven't spent all that extra cash on synthetic oils... Almost makes as little sense as using plus or premium fuel in a stock Accord, just throwing money away... OH and I've used 5w-30 all year round.
got a 95 coupe, used royal purple since 60k miles and runs sweet, i actually highly recommend using this, i've actually got time slips with a second faster, but still slow as hell due to full interior, and system. I ran about 2 times using royal purple and 2 times while on Valvoline fully synthetic formula, and well purple actually was a second faster both times.
Absolutely no need to go on synthetic in California. I would reserve this for an extremely cold climate.
I am also an ex-Audi owner "lost" in Honda's world. Guess what? When I recently test tried an A4 1.8T 2002, I felt that it didn't drive as well as my Accord, even if it was obviously better built.

very true, but here in vegas its reached 116 already and like 0% humidity few weeks ago, but then followed by rain the next week, but i use 10w40 due to the heat, and since i use the a/c, things heat up under the hood very very fast.
A lot of this comes down to piece of mind. For me I use synthetic because it makes me more comfortable and I prefer the longer drain intervals since i service the oil myself. It still get hot in california sometimes and during long highway trips in the heat dino can break down and thin before syn. does.
Dino maybe better for the money, but in my past experience with cars i will continue to use syn. oils
