Default Potential EP3 purchase in my future

First of all, I'll apologize. I've searched, read the FAQ/read this and still can't really find anything on any of this.

- Do any of the EP3s come with projector headlamps or am I looking at a full retrofit to get HIDs in them correctly?

- What do you guys do about turbocharging these? I've looked a little bit and all I've found is the Greddy kit for it. I've had a boosted EK for years and years and loved it, but have no idea if anything on this is going to be glaringly different. I think these are returnless fuel systems and have no idea how to approach that at all.

-Guage clusters changed on the "normal" civics in 03 I think. The main differences in the 01-03 SI and the 04-06 SI is the front end, the lights (heads and tails) and the side skirts?

No HID headlamps for us.

The k20a3 is perfect for boost and most will tell you it can handle ~300 whp on stock internals.

I don't know about the nonSi Civics but the 02-05 Si gauge clusters are the same. The 04/05 Si is also 5 lug. Check this thread out: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1771930

In regards to the fuel system, from what I have seen in RSX's the returnless fuel system is good to at least 500whp, and the stock fuel pump can be used to at least 270whp.

P.s. I think full-race make a turbo kit for the EP3.

04-05 type r's came with projectors but you have to convert them to LHD unless you score a LHD set from Europe

Cybernetics also makes a turbo kit

There is no 01 SI and the front ends were the same through the years, but headlights and tails were different between 02-03 and 04-05. 04-05's were also switched to 5 lug.

I'm pretty sure you aren't going to be dissapointed, unless you want the performance of your old car. Since the EP3 isn't brain melting.

I only have like 3 concerns

1) No maintenance issues

2) Doesn't get stolen

3) Isn't **** slow as a D16Z6

I think if I get one the first thing I'd wanna do is a Type-S trans swap

Yeah, you will be fine then. I haven't had any issues with my RSX. It should be quicker that a stock civic, but the Type S trans will help out a lot with the get up and go. I think it should be about as fast as your average Stock EM1.

You'll like an EP. Watch for tranny grinds and steering rack creak (which may be unavoidable). I love driving every minute of mine (except now because my exhaust is too loud, resonator sound absorbing material blew out - long story). Loud exhaust ftl.

I think it's time to get rid of the EK finally. It's been fun, but as cheap as these are, I can't see continuing to drive a car with 170k on the clock that's a maintenance nightmare.

If I were building a track car, I'd rather have the EP3 tranny. The 6-speed is over-rated unless you're concerned about highway cruising, then it is a bit nicer.

A stock Ep3 should be a dead-heat race with a stock EM1 in a straight line.

Get an EP3, try to score a 04-05 though the little differences make it a better car overall. I have a 04 that is a DD and got with 9k now has 34k and no problems yet. I was DDing a 1996 hatch with a b16 swap and some goodies, the EK was overall alot funner but this car is so much more pratical it kills the EK in DD ability plus it sips cheap gas.

why not the 02-03s? I know the whole steering rack noise thing but what else makes the 04-05s better?

Nothing, the minute differences between 02/03 and 04/05 don't make one "gen" better than the other.

I forgot to mention that was my opinion, but I like the side skirts, headlights, tail lights, chrome accents inside, bigger wheels, lighter flywheel, 5 lug, beefier rear sway. That is just my opinion it may not be a little better in your opinion.

Also some 02,03 models had the "defective" camshaft problem which would really suck. All ep's are prone to steering creek if lowered but some cars never get it while others do. Kinda hit and miss on that one.

I like the 04/05 headlights, the 02/03 tails, lugs make no difference to me (rather have my extended 4 over 5), I have an upgraded sway anyways, and CTR side skirts. There are things I like from both gens so I didn't have a preference when picking my EP.
