00-1335 double fatality=kia rondo
first off, this is the second time i have to write this due to computer stupidity, so it will be a shorter less detailed version.
i went to streets of willow for a redline track event on friday and had what i believe was an oil pump failure leading to what sounds like a spun bearing. i have the 100 mile towing benefit with triple a so i determined that my old place of employment would be the most secure place to tow it to and it clocked in at 97miles. after a 3 hour tow truck ride with a tow truck driver who kept trying to convince me that a type r comes with a stroked 2.0L engine from the factory, we arrive at her temporary resting place until i come back with a trailer on sunday and work out which shop is going to get the car.
on sunday i pull up and notice immediately that the hood is not closed completely. hoping that it was just my error i walk up and get ready to unlock the doors when i see that my passenger airbag has been removed...then i look inside and see the entire interior stripped with exception of the steering wheel. ecu harness was cut, cluster removed, even took out my tweeters in the door that were not even hooked up. surprisingly when i popped the hood, all they took was my spoon oil filler cap, oem tower bar is still there.
so...my guess is that there is no way insurance will pay the ~$6k to replace the seats, plus replacement of the airbags, plus rewiring of the ecu, and whatever else they find. i expect it to be another salvaged R to add to the list.
so now i'm driving a bad *** kia rondo around and looking for an s2k while i await the verdict from insurance. expect to see a massive sale of itr parts that i have lying around also, but i'm going to wait and see first how much they want for the car with it's salvaged title first before i start selling stuff.
cliff notes:
spun bearing at track
towed car to place to have it sit for a couple days
came to pick up car and it was stripped
kia rondo not on my wishlist

you should have chalked up the dough to get it towed from wherever you left it back to your house,
minor lapse of judgement in itr=money down the drain

i probably sounded like a dick, telling you things you already know, what i really meant to say is good luck with bringing her back, sucks you have to fix the track and theft problems, double whammy
i'm kind of whatever about it now. after having it broken into in january, getting it put back together, then this...it's just more than i'm really looking to have to worry about right now. i love my car but i think i love my sanity a little more...so an s2k will be less of a headache at least and then i can join the rwd>fwd soap box and rile all you guys up.
thats teh ghey, but why take the airbag?
Good luck of the sk2 find. These stories make me wanna sell the car because i'm moving to Chicago and that alone is bad news.

Sorry for your loss...try to work with the insurance company and keep a clean title.

The tow truck driver could have been the one who came back for it or told someone about it?

sorry to hear about ur loss.. but hey u still have ur motor.. even though its blown.. many parts are still useable or worth some $$$... i bet many ppl who have thier R stolen and got nothing back.. not saying your not grateful
i would tell the insurance co.. that the thieves tried to started and spun the motor..
