Default Cooling fan always on. Help Please

Yes I searched first.

I just picked up a bone stock 91 HF. The dude before me replaced the radiator because it leaked (actually I think it is the head gasket anyway)

My problem is that the cooling fan runs all the time. Even it you just turn on the key at ACC the fan comes on when the car has not been running.

Any guess as to if that would be caused by a sensor or a relay? If so where are they hidden?

Thanks in advance.

I want to say they'd be located either mounted near the passenger side headlight, or just follow the wires from the fan up through the loom and you'll hit the relays eventually. The previous owner may have also just hardwired the fans to an ignition power source and hence why they run all the time.

Good luck.

the cooling fan switch is on the back of the block next to the oil filter - 2-wire connector with black rubber boot - the fan relay is on the inner fender panel behind the passenger side headlight - i also would suspect that the fan is hardwired to come on with the ignition switch

I was afraid of something like that. He cut the AC lines to get the radiator in so I wouldn't put that past him.

I will go start tracing out some wires.

I traced back the wires. Everything looks to me as it should be. No crazy hack jobs or anything. I would have to guess it would be the switch then. I dont think that relays fail to on? However that one may be designed to fail to on for engine safety.
