Default Misfire after warmed up

1989 Civic DX 1.5 dual point injection. Starts well, and runs well. Seems to misfire after warmed up mostly between 2 & 3k rpm. Coiled died last winter, and was replaced with one from AutoZone. Distributor was marked prior to coil replacement. With new coil installed, it read 14 deg BTDC, then re-timed to 17 deg BTDC. (both with test jumper in). No error codes. Seems to be getting progressively worse. Any ideas?? DogCar

Last night, I repaired a wire on the primary side of the coil. The insulation was hard and cracked in a couple of places. I put in new NGK plugs and put in an old rotor that looked better than anything I could buy locally. I haven't had the mis-fire yet, and it pulls much stronger above 3500 rpm. By the way, the Bosal 50mm exhaust really needs the K&N filter to realize it's potential. The Tokico Illumina shocks are perfect match for the road conditions in my area. Recently I switch to the Redline MT transmission lube. The sycronizers engage much better than they did with the Honda recommended engine type oil.

An occasional misfire, followed by a surge in power happens occasionally now. Seems to happen when the car is fully warmed up, and has had to poke around is slow city traffic a bit. I think it could be one of the following, heat build up in the coil, bad plug wire(s), or heat build up in bad igniter module in the distributor.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed. Gas mileage has really improved since fixing the primary wires on the coil, and replacing the spark plugs.
