Default I don't Believe it! WTF! Final drive in DOHC ZC L3 Trans!!

With my Turbo DOHC ZC I had intended on doing the Si Final and 5th gear swap into my L3 ZC Trans. I took the tranny apart and i decided to confirm that I actually bought a ZC Tranny, not some rip off. After I counted the teeth, I stepped back in horror. This CANNOT be! This final drive should not EXIST!!

I Checked the Final teeth count twice!, no Three times!
ZC: 71 Teeth
Si: 68 Teeth
ZC Has more teeth, so It's shorter if the Counter shaft is the same.

So I checked the diameters of the finals.
ZC: Ø7.535
Si: Ø7.490
The ZC is larger, meaning it's shorter if the Counter shaft is the same.

The Counter shaft from the ZC
ZC: 16 teeth
Si: 16 teeth

This means the Finals drives are as follows:
ZC: 4.438
Si: 4.250
The only other final drive that is like this ZC is the 02-05 RSX Type S Final.

I also counted the teeth on each gear and my ZC Trans has the exact same gear ratios as the USDM Si.

So that means I have a Trans like the Si but with a 4.438 Final.

This plot should give you a good idea on how Tall/Short these different transmissions are.

Has anyone else found this out? All the other people on the internet say the ZC Final is 3.888, just like the DX, but has shorter gears. I even have the Service manual from a '88 CRX with comfirms the Proper DOHC ZC Grears. Maybe in 90-91 Honda decided to use the USDM Si gears with a shorter Final for cheaper Mfg?

You have a Integra ZXi transmission. It has the same gears as the usdm Si/DX but the 4.43 final drive. You lucked out by getting this trans instead of the normal dohc trans imo

Thanks for the info!

I did some quick research and the ZXi you mentioned is a 1989-1991 JDM Integra that comes with a SOHC ZC PGM-FI motor that makes 120 HP. The transmission is an SI with a 4.438 Final. This all makes since. So they had 2nd Gen Integras with SOHC ZCs with transmissions that bold right up to our SOHC?

Yup to your last question.

I lucked out just like you when I bought what was supposedly the close ratio ZC tranny people want. Turned out to be the ZXi tranny as well. Have fun man.

BTW, You count teeth the exact same way I do. Sharpie rules
