i was installing A/C lines into my civic and after i finished i went to start the car and it made a grinding sound after it started, turned the car off and tried to start it again, it wounld start. I push started it and it srarted up. After that it only started about 4 times and every time it started it made a grinding noise. Now it wont start again.
know when i go to strt it the starter makes a clicking and whining noise.

Does this mean i need a new starter?

I had the same problem. it ended up one of the conections was loose. i also changed the cap and rotor in the distributor.

 

all the connections are fine and the car runs fine just wont start; since i can get it to start it i push start it.

 

i hear you can take your starter out and take it to like pep boys or autozone and they can test it for free.

check your ground on from the transmission to the chassis. Mine was cut from corrosion, so it would not start, but it still ran.
