Exactly my point.....
Exactly my point.....
Virtually all new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. use either 5W30 or 10W30 oil. The difference between the two is that the 5W30 flows better when cold, so if you live in a cold climate or operate your vehicle in a cold climate during the winter months, you should use 5W30 if it is the preferred oil for your vehicle. If you live in a sub-tropical climate and don't operate your vehicle in cold climates, then 10W30 is acceptable as long as the manufacturer specifies that it is permissible to use it.
been using 10w-30 and havent had any problems

Hmmmm weird. My cap actually says 5W-20 on my 01 Accord with ULEV. Hmmmmmmmmm........................................ .......... But I've been running 5w-30. Runs just fine.

didn't honda recently change the specs for a lot of their cars from the original specs?
I know acura puts in a lighter oil than what the manual calls for........seems to work just fine

start introducing 10w30 as it's nearing high mileage
don't listen to the smartass on here who said use what the oil cap says
yea the oil cap says 5w30 but you won't use that once ur car has 150 000 miles on it or else u can kiss it goodbye
engines with more miles require a higher viscosity in oil...im a mechanic i know

My 96 Accord with over 380,000km worked great and had no oil pressure or heating problems using light weight oil (AMSOil 0w30). What oil you use depends on what your oil pressure and temps look like not how old your engine is or how many km/miles are on it.
My car was dealer maintained before I bought it and I never missed an oil change. I think that has a lot to do with how much your engine wears as well. I've got the engine torn down right now and I measured the old bearing clearances for shytes and giggles and they are still well within spec. That would mean that I should still be using the spec oil right? Minimal change in bearing clearance = no change in oil......

Yeah I'm the smart ***.....
Owner's Manual: 5w30
Oil Cap: 5w30
Go to a dealership: 5w30
etc
If you're a mechanic then I'm sure you know the "high mileage" oil causes gaskets and what not to swell up to stop/prevent leaks, this can be bad for a motor that is running fine. Assuming the motor has no problems, there's no reason to change from dino to synthetic or change the oil's weight.
AND for your information my Accord has 209000 miles and seems to be running quite cherry with 5w30 dino, and my other accord has 160000 miles and is running just the same using 5w30 at regular intervals.

what do you consider high milage?
honda engines can easily go 500K+ so 150K is not high milage for a honda
