subwoofers & the license plate
hello friends
i just got two 12s put in my car. everything is nice and quiet aside from the crazy rattling license plate. and with only the top two bolts being available to screw it down, what could i do to lessen/eliminate the noise?

I assume when you say...

If that is the case (and there are two more holes, like every other 8th gen I've seen), then you could just go to a hardware store and buy two more bolts. That's what I did. I think they are 10mm. I know I actually bought 4 stainless ones so they don't rust.
If you only have two mounting holes in your car, then you could tape a small piece of foam to your license plate. It will absorb the sound of it hitting your car.

I would get two more bolts and bolt the license plate down, but before doing that, put some sound proofing material on the back of the plate, i.e. Dyamat Extreme. That should quiet down the rattling, however you might hear more rattles somewhere else. Good Luck.

if you can hear the licence plate rattle from the inside of the car, its most likely not the licence plate. its your rear deck. either dynamat, or just remove the rear deck. i took mine off.
it still rattles, now its the roof lining.
shoved a piece of styrofoam in between the rear glass and the lining and its now gone. my licence plate rattles but i cant hear it from inside the car, only when i go the back and my system is on.

All license plates should have four holes, two on top, two on bottom. You might need to get some self tapping screws to create holes on the trunk for the bottom two holes.

my 07 si sedan only has the top two mounting locations. there are no holes for the bottom.
foam is a good idea, or dynamat like RICO_ suggested.

I know my 08 EX came from the factory with only 2 drilled holes at the top, there are 2 indented spots at the bottom of the plate for 2 more (but you have to drill them yourself). I took off that whole trunk insert and did a bolt and nut combo instead of just drilling in 2 screws, thought it might be a little bit more secure that way. Dynomat will help a little but if you just screw in the bottom 2 holes you don't really need it unless you want 0 rattle.
I had the same problem. I put a couple strips of 1/8" cork tape on the back of the plate. Stopped the rattle and will not scratch the paint under the plate.
