Default Adding ATF - civic 1994!!

Hi all!

I bought this car, a civic sedan 94 EX (Automatic), about 4 weeks ago. The ATF level was quite low when I first checked. However, the engine was not at the normal operating temperature when I checked the fluid level. Then I added about 1 litre of ATF, and it seems I have added bit more than what required, because, now the reading is quite a bit above the upper level.

I am wondering whether the ATF level will decrease when the engine is operating at its normal temperature, or will I have to take some fluid out?

If anyone knows an answer, please let me know.

Thanks.

ATF expands as it warms.. it should be at the lower portion while cold.. itll expand to the hot or higher portion...
too much ATF can cause shift shock, shift shudder, slipping like conditions.. not good.

Hi! Is it possible to use the drain plug to remove only the excess ATF or will I have to remove them all and refill?

I have a owners manual, but it doesn't say anything about removing the excess. Anyway, I have very little knowledge on car maintenance.

If any of you can give a little explanation, that would be a big help.

Thanx!

loosen the drain plug until it is just about to fall off.. then slowly tilt it and drain it for a few seconds.. make sure you take enough out so its not overfilled still. then let the vehicle warm up and check the level.. if you need to add more.. add it in small quantities.
