Timing Belts, tensioners, voltage issue and more...
Before I explain my issue, heres the specs:
1992 Prelude SI
h22a
I have no A/C installed in my car. After I had issues with my timing belt, the shop said that I could run a smaller belt that doesnt lap my A/C pulley?
I drove the car for maybe a month or less and started noticing issues.
A.) My belt began to make a squeeling noise. It was starting to get cold and I figured it was probably a lil loose.
B.) ALL lights in/out of the car had a very faint flicker. Unoticable by most passengers, but after showing it to them it became quite apparent.
C.) I have an aftermarket volts meter installed, and it has been months since I read it, but the volts were higher than normal. (if the volts meter is functioning correctly.)
After closer examination, I noticed my timing belt was slightly slipped over the edge of the pully. Honestly I dont remember noticing any power loss in this time. So I re-alligned the belt, and tightened it back down. The squeelying noise stopped. I went out that night, pushed the car fairly hard, but nothing major. Also noticed that the volts we're lower I THINK. I also thing the flickering lights may have weaked, or stopped flickering completely.
I came home, parked the car, popped the hood. Belt was slipped over a little ways again.
SO, if anyone cared to read this post...here are my questions:
1.) Using a smaller belt and the method my shop explained is legit?
2.) The belt may have lost a tooth or grove and its coming off? Need to replace belt?
3.) If B is true, you think its any of the shops responsibility? I didnt drive the car for more than a week when I noticed these issues.
4.) Can someone supply me with info on manual/auto tensioners? How can I safely secure my 2nd h22a motor from suffering a death like my 1st? (I dont want timing belt to destroy my motor)
5.) Is there a write up or somewhere in the prelude manual that shows all the grounds in my car? I want to make sure I'm grounded everywhere to stop this flickering of lights.
Anyways, I'll be in the garage here all night working on her. Just want to say thank you before hand to all you late-night HT'ers that can offer assistance.
