89 crx hf????? help
Just bought a 89 crx today, problem is there is no manual and i don't know if it is a regular crx or crx hf? How can you tell? Is the hf a 1.3 or 1.5 litre? Also, if it is an hf, what is the very best brand or type of oil filter, air filtler, oil, spark plugs, wires, and fuel filter for maxximum gas mileage? Thanks!

HF's are 1.5 liter motor's along with the stock CRX. Si's are 1.6 liter motors. To tell what type of engine you have, look under your hood for the engine stamp. It's stamped right where the tranny meets the motor. If your car is an HF, it should read D15B6. Si's are stamped D16A6. You can also check if your car has rear drums or disks, amongst many other differences you can check . There's a thread for in the FAQ I think for differences in model's by year.
Your not going to notice much difference in MPG if you use premium oil or oil filters. I personally use OEM filters and Mobil 1 Synthetic for oil, but it depends on your engine. I wouldn't waste money putting synthetic in an HF, not worth it. Any conventional 5W-30 would work fine along with an oil filter. Just don't get FRAM.
Investing in an air filter is something that can improve MPG, but don't expect huge differences in MPG. You don't really need an intake for a stock HF motor, but to each his own.
Check out http://www.pgmfi.org . You might be able to chip your ECU's fuel maps or something to get better MPG. Check out the site and see what your options are.
