How To - Remove Honda's Doorlock Safety Feature (With Pics!)
Wouldn't it be nice to lock your door without having to hold the stupid handle open? I sure as hell thought so. After a search, I could not find any info on removing this pain in the ***.. so here go's nothing.
In the middle of installing my power locks I decided to examine the differences between the passenger's and driver's locking mechanisms. (The passenger side does not have this feature)
Heres the difference:

And if you cant see, here's a closeup highlighted in red:

^ If you play around with the mechanism, you'll notice that this little **** hits another **** unless the latch is pulled open. So, the only logical thing to do would be to grind off the **** so it functions the same as the passenger side. So I did just that..
Here's how:
First, we need to grind off the flattened ends that hold metal face to the plastic (highlighted red)

My tool of choice.. 3" air cut off tool. $12.00cad at Princess Auto

Now, dont bother sliding the bolts out that hold the unit together, just lift the metal face off like so:

Take it right off:

Take notice of how the spring (in red) is positioned. Now remove it:

Now you can slide off the next little assembly:

And then the next one..

^ This last piece is the one with the pesky **** on it.
If you have a vice, I recommend using it... it makes the operation a little easier. Heres the piece, and the tab that needs to be cut off (in red):

I used my trusty cut off tool again, but you could file or hacksaw the thing off if your in desperate times. Just grind it off flush as if it were never there:

All gone

Reassembly should be self explanitory using the above images.
When you get back to the bolts that you ground the flattened head off of.. you have a few options.. you could replace them with some normal threaded bolts, or.. you could do as I and give each a couple tack welds so they wont slide out
Remember, just tacks.. we dont want to melt the friggen plastic internals so it never works again

All tacked up

If your really damn lazy, you dont actually need anything to stop the bolts from sliding out.. when its installed in the door that is. The three main phillips bolts on the outside sandwitch the whole assembly together. But dont do this, you never know.
And here we have the finished product, attached is my sedan power lock actuator

Enjoy

great write up
I've always wondered what the cause of that.
I always thought something was bent or tweaked.
So I bet you could source a jdm latch and get the same effect.

Reason is, to make sure you don't acciedntly lock yourself out or lock your keys in the car, sort of a reminder. I've gotten so used to it, I still do it on cars that don't have the feature.

I think it's a good feature to have. You'll be shitty if you take it out, then lock your keys in the car. Or you could just buy a remote keyless entry kit.

Yeah, but i've driven these cars for so many years now that that is just part of the motion of getting out of the car now, so i still lock the keys in it at the carwash regardless.

X2.. me and my buddy both drive hondas and we periodically lock ourselves out
There is no way this serves to be a "key in the ignition" reminder... especially if pulling the latch open becomes second nature after a week.
Honda added in buzzers for that on some other models (my 90 accord had one), and theres a spot on the crx fuse panel that you can plug a buzzer in... if your really worried about locking yourself out

Thats what i thought at first, until someone pointed out it's benefits lol.

On my first Honda I thought that something was broken, so i bent the rod that the handle moves to make it a little shorter. It works fine. Just don't bend it too far or it will hold the latch open.
