EX'ing the Si Sedan - Wing, emblems
I am looking at getting an '08 si sedan, but must admit I can't figure out if I like the stock wing. I prefer sleepers, so I'm contemplating negotiating for a swap to the EX trunk lid, with the lip spoiler (the EX w/o lip is *yawn*). The i-vtec stickers will be gone, and the ex emblem is to be removed, as well.
Can anyone speak from experience as to whether there are actual aerodynamic gains from the stock si spoiler or not?
How is the si logo in the grill attached, screwed or one piece with the grill?
If there is an existing thread on this topic, I couldn't find it. Either link me to the thread, or just share your knowledge/thoughts.

I believe I read that the Si wing helps keep the car more stable at high speeds. At what speeds, I don't know exactly.
The Si emblem on the grill is screwed on, however, if you really wanted a sleeper, than you should swap out the grill for the chrome grill off of a DX/LX/EX.

I'm pretty sure your stock wing is just for looks. For a wing to function it has to be almost as high or higher than the roof line.

iam sure when driveing air travels to the stock si wing and it creats some kinda drag or down force cant say it does nothing but look good

Pure appearance.

There is a post on the lower portion of the grill and the Si emblem is attatched to it with 2 screws. I had my post shaved off and the lower portion color matched.

Yes it's only functional if the wind goes down there. The only way to tell is to get your car in a wind tunnel. But usually the wind travel around the front part of the body, and create a line with the roof. I haven't seen a lot of graphs of wind going back down to your trunk surface area which is where the wing is at for the Si. Even with a functional lip, the lip has to be pointing to certain height, or extended for certain length to catch that wind. But most of the spoilers on cars are just for look. If it does work, the company usually makes sure you know that it is a funtional wing, because it'd be a selling point. With the Si wing, I don't know... it's not all that tall, nor is it extended out beyond the length of the trunk. Maybe someone can find it on paper stating it's a functional wing or not.

wing doesent have to be that big to function. my homie put one on his car and at high speeds it was way more stable then before. now that was a different car though. the si im not sure. it might do something.

so were the cars that the wings were put on. none of them were si's. but it still planted the rear abit more at high speeds. it was noticeable.

True but your not getting more traction because the wheels that are spining are in the front and not the back.

I pretty much agree with you, but the front of the car isn't the only thing lifting at high speeds, whether a car is fwd, rwd or awd. Granted, a wing wouldn't affect anything on a stock, or even pretty well modded Civic.
And, in the Civic's (and most FWD cars') case, having the ***-end kick out a little bit in the corners, is desired.

no it doesnt. the itr wing and the EDM/JDM crx wings all help with downforce and stability of the car at higher speeds and they arent that high...same goes for the older Si coupes.

just because a car is fwd doesnt meant it wont benefit from a rear spoiler...

I know, its just not getting any more traction like people said in the begining of the thread
In a FWD car, the only thing the spoiler does is to keep it stable at high speeds. Whereas in a RWD car, the spoiler is to give traction and to keep the rear wheels planted........................................... ..................................
