Default HELP!!!!!!! B20A swap in a 89 rex

ok, im about to put the b20a motor from a 91 Prelude Si into my 89 crx

the motor has about 80k miles on it, and its a 5 speed manual

what do i need, im just buying the motor and tranny

i know i need axles ecu and motor mounts, but what kind, and am i going to have to do any special modifications to make the tranny fit?

if anyone has done this swap in there crx or civic please help me

also, will i have enough room for a turbo kit in my engine bay? i want to reliably boost it, maybe about 4-6 PSi or so

please help, im a 18 year old kid that is doing a motor swap for my first time, if theres any things i should know about that are key factors let me know

thanks

This is not the same engine as the B20B/Z. You would have to make your own mounts, and axles would be questionable as well. It's really not worth it. There are far more cost effective swaps for the EF.

My suggestion, get rid of that engine. It's not a regular b series like other motors. It will not bolt in, nobody makes a mount kit for it, you would have axle issues, plus that motor really isn't that good.

A B18A would probably be more up your alley.

No, you have forgotten:

- new clutch
- timing belt
- throttle cable
- (important) the prelude tranny is a hydro unit, will not work without conversion
- wiring, not to mention clearance issues

deetz.

it has a new atc clutch and belts

but needs axles ecu (was planning to convert to obd 1)
and hydro clutchs are better then cable, arent they? so it would be worth it to convert to hydro right?

and wont the hasport efb1 mounts fit on the b20a? they fit for b20b, and b18a,b,c im not sure though

No, the B20A is a totally different motor from any other Honda engine, it is a "one off" black sheep and shares no other parts with other b series engines. The mount kits you see will not work at all with the engine/tranny

Just sell it to someone else.

yea just sell it to someone with a prelude that needs a new motor... the b20a should've been designated a different letter because it is way different than any other b-series...

thanks guys for the usefull information

, i sold the b20 to a guy who needed it for his lude, he blew up his motor and was looking for it, so he gave me 615 bucks

and i picked up a gsr for 1000 bucks that has 50k miles on it, came with intake mani, stock headers , and ecu and dizzy, but it needs tranny and axles, and i need motor mounts

wheres the best place to find a new tranny and axles for this motor? i decided hasport motor mounts, but if anyone knows where i can get cheaper ones that are just as good let me know. but i doubt there is, ya get what u pay for :-P anyways

thanks for the usefull information,

Transmission, you can use any B series trans you want really, but if it's a hydro trans, you'll have to buy a conversion kit to use it. Match axles to the transmission (90-93 teg/94+teg, etc)

If I were you, I'd look for a 92-93 integra GSR trans, or a cable B16 trans, and I'd avoid the LS transmission.

Thats only kind of right....you match the axles to the intermediate shaft. You can have a 1990 b series tranny with 94+ shaft and axels.

As far as an LS tranny for B20, i have one in y hatch, car goes like hell, no complaints except traction, which would only be worse with a vtec gearbox.

Thanks for the correction, I wasn't paying that much attention when I wrote it.
