FRM Sleeves = Expensive
Hey there everyone,
First off what is it with my attraction towards the H-Series Engine, Is it the biggest displacement engines that honda makes? or is its brutal power? But with this power there has to be a catch. I mean you dont think your gonna have all that potential without getting severly *** raped when you run into so many little quirks.
Well to name some of the wonderful crap that the H has to offer well... one of the biggest quirk is the FRM sleeve situation. Now I know what your gonna say "Well Mahle makes a piston that doesn't require sleeving" But what about the H23.
Needless to say I have an H23 that I want to put in a 93 Civic. Now I have this motor just sitting around and I really want to do an all motor version of this engine in the civic. I dont want to boost the H23 I already have a fully built h22 boosted lude. I will possibly consider doing an H23 VTEC if I have H22 head around. Basically My question is What type of options do I have when it comes to putting pistons without sleeving the block? I plan on using h22 pistons and using h23 rods. What piston's that require no sleeving that will give you adequate power(well ALOT of Fing POWER!!!)?

Any of the stock H series pistons from Honda are made for the FRM sleeves, therefore your options are all the stock pistons and their respective factory available overbores, or Mahle gold if you want to try them, or the Jun pistons if you can find and afford a set. generally the type-s pistons or overbore type-s pistons are going to give you the highest compression ratio, and then you need to look at your crank and rods, the cc of the combustion chamber you will be creating with which ever head you want use, what face the valves you run have etc. There is a ton of info on various builds and what other people have come up with, so time to start researching!!
So does the H22 and H23 have the same bore size so the oem pistons are interchangable? If this is correct, can I do this without sleeving.
TypeS piston do I need to sleeve?

lots of helpful info

deeper into the thread there is discussion about pistons to use.. if you stick h22 pistons on your h23 rods, they will protrude out the top of the cylinder at TDC

well I'll find out I'm currently taking the h23 apart, I was wondering which of the 2 would I be best going with all motor h23 in terms of transmission H22's tranny or H23 tranny?
