my b20b has a hairline crack where the oil pressure sending unit is.not in the threads but on the top. oil only drips when the motor is on. i have since replaced the shortblock. since the old block is just sitting there i wondered if it can be salvaged?
something similar happened to a buddies block.
i welded it, and we retapped it and it worked for at least a year, till he swapped out for a different motor config.
you can fix it. but its not a jb weld fix

I beg to differ. I JB welded my block and it held for 9 months! I wouldn't suggest it but it worked

its right on the oil pressure sending unit. so i guess it would just need to be strong enough to hold oil pressure, not crancase pressure. is there a difference?
yeah, lots of difference, oil pressure peaks at 80ish and is usually constant 60ish
crankcase pressure shouldn't be that high though

i JB welded a 5" crack accross the front of my sleeved B16 in the water Jacket. it held numerous heat cycles, and a dyno session. ended up pulling it for other reasons. I love JB weld. (we did try to tig it, but the crack kept spreading)
