Default 1979 Accord new to me

My wife's grandfather is giving me his 1979 accord! This car is in great shape, garage kept and only has 29k original miles on it.

EDIT:
I finally took pics today, and Odometer hit 30k miles also...

Keep it as stock as possible and make it a sunny day driver.

Aah! Sweet! I wonder if the 79s all had cloth seats like that. My 81 had cloth / vinyl, but the vinyl is always ripped in them when you find them. That whole car is in super-nice shape! Take good care of it!

Oh man is that the 2 speed Hondamatic? How is that anyways? I always wondered what it would be like to drive one like that.

Well I just talked to my wife about the seats, they are not the original seats Grandma didn't like the Stock vinyl seats, so when they sold their 80s (I will find what year) Accord, grandpa switched the seats. So that she could have the nicer/newer accord seats.

The Hondamatic is a Semi-Automatic. When you come to a stop, then you move the shifter into 1st, then to 2nd after you get underway.

Oh, wow!! My father bought a 79 Accord Hatchback back in July 79 with the same paint color but with a 5-speed. I have it now and trying to restore it - mainly body parts - fenders, front grille, bumper, etc. It only has 166K on it and I'm now driving it every day commuting to work - 50 miles roundtrip. On 100 deg days it does get a little hot inside without a/c, even with both windows rolled down - I'm in Texas.

He also had a steering wheel cover EXACTLY like yours! It has been removed now after 29 years (I actually don't know when he got it) but that was the first thing I saw when I saw that picture!

Wow, you were GIVEN that car? Score!!

and damn, super low miles. I guess old people don't like (or need) to drive much...my grandma has a mid 90's Corolla with around 22,000 km on it--that's not even 14k miles

Gotta do a little maintenance this weekend, change the rear drum pads and the rear cylinders for the brakes. Apparently the cylinders in the back have dry-rotted and are leaking fluid, so the honda didn't pass the annual state inspection.
