Default Fuel gauge stuck on F, sending unit and gauge OK

I've got a 89 CRX DX and the fuel gauge is on F most of the time, no matter how much gas I have. Usually when I start it up, it will read correctly. Then it seems as the car warms up, the needle slowly rises to F and stays there.

I've tested both the fuel gauge and the sending unit according to the Helms manual and both tested okay. The wiring coming out of the sending unit and out the back of the cluster look fine, no breaks or anything. Should I completely pull up the carpet and check the full length of the wires? Any suggestions?

the signal wire might not have a good enough contact with the PCB on the back of the cluster...

Mine does the same thing. I even checked all the grounds it says in the Helm but it doesn't help. Replacing the guage hard?

my '91 Si I just finished building is doing this same thing though I figured it's the sending unit. I have not replaced it yet So I'll know soon and I'll post up if I fix it, I do know that even though the sending unit may have passed the helms diagnostic test it could still be bad. There is not much else that would cause the gauge to act that way if voltage is correct w/ no shorts or anything.

Replacing your sending unit will likely fix your problem.

Well I know to test the gauge it says to short out the 2 pin connector and the needle should rise to F, which is what mine is doing. So apparently the gauge is still okay.

It looks like a new sending unit is only $36 from Majestic Honda, so I might just try that.

Haha I forgot I made this thread! What it ended up being was the gauge after all. I replaced the sending unit, didn't do anything. So I bought a cluster from the marketplace and used the fuel/temp gauge in my cluster (so I could keep the true mileage). I had indiglo gauges a loooong time ago, and apparently bent the needle taking them off. Hope this helps yall.

Btw, my fuel gauge doesn't go completely to the top, but is very close, within a hair.

That's the sending unit. When full, the needle should slightly pass the F mark.

My fuel gauge always reads just below full mark after filling up,
and when the needle is below the empty mark, I still have 12 litres left.
It's annoying!
It's been like this since I've owned the CRX in 2006.
I went ahead and ordered a new sending unit fuel meter today.
Only 1 left in Canada and I got it ! lol

There are 2 types:
NS or Denso

Check your gauge cluster to see if it has the 'NS' marking on the bottom right.
