Default New pressure plate with clutch?

Just a quick question,

Do I have to get a new pressure plate if I switch clutch brands or will the old pressure plate contine to work? are pressure plates universal or specific to a clutch brand?

I currently have an excedy stage II and I am looking into getting the ACT modified street disk.

pressure plates can be interchanged but why not go for the correct plate with the correct clutch. ive done mismatch and its fine as long as you dont't do something crazy like a stage 4 plate with a stock clutch
