A/C Problems
Greetings All! Has anyone been having air conditioner problems? I have taken my Ex Coupe back once for a recall on the condenser I think it was late last summer, then didnt have to use it and first time this spring when I wanted to use the A/C, the same problem showed up. It blows warmer than what it is outside, then the compressor quits engaging. The mechanic said the computer shuts the compressor off and takes it out of service to prevent damage. Now that is pretty smart! Guess its back to the dealer yet again!
We have a 2006 Civic EX Coupe we bought new in 2006. We have had it back to the dealer 6 times for a/c not cooling sufficiently. I would have brought it back more, but I don't have time for it. The dealer keeps saying that it's performing within specs. I asked for a copy of specs, but they won't give them to me. I see that there are several other threads with the same problem. A/c compressor cycles on, cools the air 7 to 15 degrees, then shuts off. Air warms 7 to 15 degrees, then compressor cycles on again. Compressor isn't on long enough to dehumidify the air and in fact since compressor is off so frequently, I think the warm air blowing over the evaporator makes the air humid and uncomfortable. I've asked for a factory rep to look at it, but they refused until I filed Lemon Law claim in Texas. I'm waiting for factory rep to inspect & administrative hearing. Seems like their standard line is that the a/c is performing within specs. I've had lots of other cars and a/c always performed well. Right now I have a 6 cyl 98 Lexus ES and a 4 cyl 2007 Toyota Camry. Both of those a/c's cool great. In those cars, A/c does not cycle and cabin gets cool and comfortable even in stop & go traffic in Houston.
Has anyone been successful in getting this problem repaired? I paid a lot of money for the car and my wife hates it because it's so uncomfortable to drive April thru September in Houston. I drove several other Civics and some a/c's work as poorly as our Civic and some apear to work great. Seems to me to be a design defect they are not willing to admit to. They just tell me to turn it to Max A/c. That's what we have to do, but that doesn't improve performance.
My recommendation to you Sarge is to try to get them to take the car back or trade it for a Toyota. We've been fighting it for 2 years now and they are getting real snitty with me. I wish I had demanded they buy it back the day after we bought it when we first noticed the problem.
