GT28 Turbo Idenitication Pros Chime in
So I'm piecing together a setup on a D16Y8, this guy sold me a turbo saying it was a GT28 but I'm not sure what it is really. It bolts into the T25/T28 flange I have on a Greddy Log Manifold so I know its its T28 something.
On one side of the housing it says
687 48L GARRETT 272-2
I think this is the exhaust side, looks rusty and carbonized.
The other side says
M24 (designation for aluminum material used from my searching this forum)
GARETTETT A/R 48 2-2
So does anyone have a clue. Its not a big turbo at all, looks almost the same size as my TD04H Greddy 15g turbo.

Check in the cartridge for water ports. Those typically use 14mm 1.25 bolts (please check my pitch measurement)
The GT28R, GT25R, and GT28 series are VERY difficult to distinquish unless the housings are removed and measured. Many garrett have M24 stamped with 5 bolt T28 turbine housings. Take off the covers, and measure the inducer and exducers of the wheels. Garrett has measurement comparison maps on their website of http://www.turbobygarrett.com
For those that don't know what "inducer" and "exducer" mean

Good luck

that looks like a stock silvia turbo problem is theres 3 or 4 versions... I'm going to guess its an S13 turbo because the S14 turbo is a .60/62 AR and the the S15 is a .60/.64 A/R
Thats just my guess...

Trying to ID a used turbo with just the casting marks is absolutely pointless. Not only are there millions of variations, but occationally turbos have different wheels put in them by the previous owner. A T28 from a S15 modded with 57trim t04e comp wheel will flow a LOT more air than the stock T28 would.
Take the housings off, measure the inducer and exducer diameters for both wheels, and post them here. ONLY THEN can we help you out.

You got jipped OP. You bought the turbo from some guy in Renton right? He was selling it on Craigslist and when I got pictures from him, I had a friend check them out and he verified that it is NOT a GT28RS.
