Default car shakes when brakes are applied!

My friend has an 06 honda civic coupe and everytime he brakes the car shakes violently. I'm just wondering what the cause is. Could it be that his rotors are warped??

Definetely a rotor problem, possibly an alignment problem too. If your toe is off you can feel vibration on the steering wheel.

It's debatable wether the rotors actually warp, or if the pulsation is due to pad deposits on the rotors surface. Proper "bedding in" of the pads after replacement can minimize the deposit problem. Also very important, whenever remounting wheels, the lug nuts should be torqued to 80lb/ft with a torque wrench in a star pattern to minimize possibly distorting the rotor hub.

More than likely he needs some new rotors. I avoid turning rotors, because you reduce the ability of the rotor to dissipate heat. Its usually best to just buy new ones. They are relatively inexpensive, and its a job that any mechanically inclined person can do.

Does he drive it hard? cuz if the pads are hot and you pull over and put the parking brake on thatll just fuse pad material onto the rotor. whenever i have the pads warm i try and use the brakes as little as possible, trying not to just leave them applied while im at a stop.

I had this same issue, i thought it was my rotors, but after I put new tires on my car, it got rid of 95% of the shaking.

it the rotors...

and if he did the brakes not to long ago with a fresh turn on the rotors he didn't brake them in good and probably got them to hot....

dude ur alignment would have to be so far off!!!!

look guys if ur car shakes driving down the road with not aplying the brakes at all... its the balance or tire or rim problem...

if ur car shakes when u apply the brakes.. its ur rotors warped...

if ur car shakes when driving and shakes when stopping.... its both...

unless ur alignment is so facked up that ur steering wheel is upside down when trying to drive straight... shaking will never come from ur alignment...

i see 2many stupid people who come into my shop and say... i need a alingment my car is shaking
