Default Fuel Pressure issue...

I know this is not the tech section but thisis the only place to get educated answers and not guesses.

Have a BDL fpr and the lowest fp I can get is about 80psi@14v at idle. It is adjusted all the way out. I have called BDL numerous times and have never got an answer or a call back, are they still in business? I know it is a spring issue but does anyone know what I can do to get a lower pressure spring from somewhere other than BDL? What issues can I have with the fp being that high?

It has been like this since new. Scott told me it was a 55psi spring and I was cool with that but 80 psi is a bit much at idle.

What fuel pump? Too big of a fuel pump will do that because the regulator can't bypass enough.

Can't help you if you don't help us. lol

I asked weldon what size regulator is required with their pump and they asked me which pump.

something stupid to check.... I dont know about the BDL unit... but the small cone shaped aeromotive fpr has the threads tapped too far for the boost reference fitting and if you tighten it all the way it will catch the spring inside.

I had the same problem with 2 bosch pumps, my shock proof gauge got stuck @ 85psi. My fpr was messed up.

I had a similar issue as well... but not BDL.

I ordered 2 different regulators. each a different PSI and i got them confused.

One would only allow me to start off at 80psi and would max out pressure at
125psi.

The other one after I put it on went from 35psi to 85psi.

sounds like you may have one that will do the higher pressures.

when i installed my 2025 with the sx regulator, i changed to a -8 from a -6 and it went from 70 to 60psi. i had to drill the hole in the return to get it to go down any more. it has been a while since i did it, so i don't remember the size hole i drilled it to.

you went to a smaller return and your pressure went down?

Oh, I am a dislexic reader I guess..lol The bdl regulator looks to be a very nice piece with -10 all around.

my thoughts also. look for a restriction anywhere on the return side.

for what its worth, im using the stock feed as my return with a weldon db2015a. no pressure issues with my setup.

eliminate the return side possiblilties by putting the fuel into an empty gas can off of the reg. if the fp is tame there, you have an issue between the reg and the tank. if that makes sense. he hee.

I'm using my stock feed as return and I think its backing up. I'm using one bosch pump. when I was using two bosch pumps, I couldnt get the pressure down from 80 psi.

What size return is everyone using?

You can run the biggest return line you like but if your regulator is small it doesn't make a difference what size return line you run.. Take it apart and see what your actually flowing thru... You'll be able to get away with it when running pumps that don't flow much fuel but with big flowing pumps it won't work.

My advise would be to buy a weldon regulator.

right on ! we tried running an aeromotive fpr @ 75+ psi base, the log from the fuel psi was haywire trying to run that much pressure, it was fine @ 50 psi base, but up at 75 + base it was up and down. since we have switched to a weldon regulator we can run whatever base we want, and have smooth fuel psi

the aeromotive has a much smaller return orfice than the weldon, also the weldon orfices are replaceable/ you can choose which size return orfice you want to run.

i havent used the large aeromotive pro series reg's just the small red/black ones

The large aeromotive's do work... The red/black ones are crap...

I had the same problem with an early BDL regulator. I would keep trying to get ahold of them. I would bet the problem is in the regulator. Put another regulator on and see what happens.

i use a1000 pump with 10an lines, a aero FPR & stock feed as return no problems

also u can probably use the areomtive fuel pump controller so it drops the volts when your below a certain rpm they it brings it back up.

i dont like them cause if it fails your [explitive deleted] but jsut a thought
