Default Power windows 91accord lx

Recently my car was broken into and the front, right side window was shattered. I get it replaced and less than a couple months later the window is now stuck in the up position. I've been trying to diagnose it myself with the idea that if it's not terribly complicated I could replace part(s) myself. Except- I can't determine if it's the regulator, motor, or possibly an electrical relay. It was making that groaning noise when I tried using the switch to put the window down- like the motor's still functioning. I've taken the door apart now and it no longer makes any noise. You can see at first I thought regulator and now I think the motor is the problem. Can anyone give me any advice on this subject? If you could refer me to a place I might learn how regulators and motors work on power windows that'd be great, or if you could suggest something yourself that might make it easier for me to diagnose my passenger side window that's be fantastic as well. Thanks for any input,

James

The window motor might just be going bad. I can't remember if the CB accord has the same crappy windows the CD accord does.

Is there a definite way to tell? Or is it just off your gut?

Take the door panel off if you haven't already, take something like the end of a ratchet or extension or some other hard metal object and tap on the motor with it while operating the switch... if it starts working you have a bad motor. You can also check for power and ground at the plug for the motor if you want to be a little more sophisticated

Say what?

Tapping something won't make it work ahaha.

To test:

Take off door panel, and check for power and ground running to the motor.

OR take the motor out and wire it straight to the battery.

If it doesn't go or does go horribly slowly (no torque) you have your problem.

The fact it makes a noise leads me to believe your switch assembly is good.

I worked at Chrysler and they were bad about window motors and regulators....when a car came in with a window inop and the regulator wasn't exploded...that's the first thing we would do. Pull the door panel (30 seconds flat on these things), whack the motor and sure enough, 9 times out of 10 it would start working... I've personally done this and seen it done dozens of times. ahaha

BTW...in case I wasn't clear, this is not a method of fixing the motor....only a method to tell you that you have a bad motor.
