Default Solo2 class question.....regarding underdrive pulley

ok, I guess i'm in STS?!?! (00 Civic Si, usual I/H/E, ITR springs with no other suspension mods, 205/50R15 RE730's.)

would changing the underdrive pulley put me in SM?
or
would it put me in SP
just curious. I'd just like to know. Thanks!

Accessory pulley and belts are allowed in STS -- meaning alternator, water pump, power steering, and crankshaft drive pulleys. Ergo, no need to jump to SM or SP unless you want to.

edit: this is per the 2001 rulebook. I don't know if anything has changed w/ regard to pulleys in 2002...

(unless i'm wrong and things have changed, what i know is...) whats being debated, and has been debated is whether or not crank pulleys are legal replacements. The wording of the rule says pulleys, but not harmonic dampeners. So on some cars if your pulley is also a harmonic balancer/dampner, then you cannot replace it. Seems silly, IMO as some cars can replace and some cars cannot. At a local level you will not have any problem though. I ran underdrive pulleys on my old autoX car in DSP/STS and it was some of the best money i ever spent. Had them fabbed at a machine shop, so it was a small job/group buy thing.

its still being debated. Check the recent FastTracks.

The latest is that if your stock crank pulley has ANY rubber type material on it, regardless what the service manual calls it, you can not replace it in SP or STS/STX. According to Howard Duncan this may change next season in STS to allow all cars to use them regardless. I am not sure if this will apply to SP as well. So keep an eye on FASTRACK

are the accessory underdrive pulleys the big upgrade you describe, or the actual crank pulley? i am considering the AEM pulleys for alternator/water pump for my STS integra. will they really make much difference?

thanks,
phil
